HEAD COACH KORY // HARTMAN The University of NorthwesternANTHONY Ohio threw their first strike on Thursday, June 18, // LABONDANO 2009 as they secured their first leader of the UNOH Baseball team as Kory Hartman accepted the position of Head Coach. Hartman, a former Kent State University hurler, brings a vast knowledge of pitching and coaching experience to UNOH and will look to build the program to an elite status.

Kory Hartman comes to UNOH with several years of coaching experience. Most recently, Hartman spent the last four seasons as the Pitching Coach at former AMC rival, Ohio Dominican. Under Coach Hartman’s tutelage, the Panthers pitching staff led the American Mideast Conference in ERA for three straight seasons. Hartman’s coaching career began in 2002 at Johnstown High School. He then went on to coach at Denison University in the fall of 2003 and, before joining the Panther staff, was the pitching coach at Columbus State Community College from 2003-05. Hartman is also in his second season as the pitching coach of the Granville Settlers of the Great Lakes Collegiate Baseball League. Hartman is a 1995 graduate of Granville High School where he was a highly touted baseball prospect. Hartman’s long list of high school accolades include: three-time selection to the All-State Team (1993-95); two-time Ohio Mr. Baseball (1994-95); Honorable Mention All-American (1994-95); two-time All-Mizuno First Team; and a member of the 1995 Team USA. While at Kent State he was a four year letter winner and a member of the 1996 Mid-American Conference Championship Team. Coach Hartman holds a number of Kent State pitching records along with Ohio High School records, which include strikeouts, career ERA and most wins. His playing days ended after spending three years in the Independent Professional Baseball League. Hartman and his wife, Ashley, reside in Newark, Ohio with their daughter, Madison.

ASSISTANT COACH LOU // ROSS Lou Ross comes to UNOH after ANTHONY graduating from Indian// Lake High School. Coach LABONDANO Ross started his coaching career when he coached for the Marysville Playmakers in 2007. He then coached for the Diamond Dawg travel team in 2008, where Coach Ross led the team to a 40 and 10 record. After a successful stint with the Diamond Dawg organization, Coach Ross continued his profession with the Tipp City Lumber Company in 2009, which competed in two state championships. Coach Ross’s last stop before joining the Racers coaching staff was at the helm of Indian Lake’s summer team. During his stretch with Indian Lake, Coach Ross won their sectionals and placed 3rd in districts. Coach Ross is currently attending UNOH and is majoring in Sport Management & Marketing. He resides in Indian Lake and is married to Misty Ross and has one son Brandon who is a freshman at the Lake.


ASSISTANT COACH GREG // EATON Coach Eaton comes to UNOH with 20 years of coaching His past coachANTHONY //experience. LABONDANO ing posts include the Stars Baseball Club, Rawlings Nationals, Lumber Company, Miami Valley Express and varsity coach at Carlisle High School. Upon the graduation of the class of 2010, Coach Eaton will have had nearly 100 former players go on to play college baseball. He has coached two National Championship teams. A 1983 graduate of Tecumseh High School, Coach Eaton played for the Legendary Bob Pyle and powerhouse WBLY teams that won five Connie Mack World Series Championships in the late 70’s and early 80’s. After being plagued with reoccurring injuries, his playing career came to an end at Eastern Kentucky University in 1984. “Coach Eaton will be a huge piece in making this a successful program. He has shown his ability to lead and coach young men and comes from a winning background, having coached two separate programs to national championships. Greg will spearhead the recruiting process as our programs recruiting coordinator, along with coaching our Junior Varsity program. I am pleased to announce the addition of Coach Greg Eaton to the UNOH baseball coaching staff.” - Coach Hartman Coach Eaton resides in Kettering, Ohio with Becky, his wife of 22 years. He has four children, David, Justin, Chelsea, Tyler, and two grandchildren, J.J. and Gracie.

ASSISTANT COACH ERIC // BEST The University of NorthwesternANTHONY Ohio and Coach Hartman are extremely excited //Best.LABONDANO to announce the hiring of Assistant Baseball Coach Eric Coach Best arrives to ANTHONY // LABONDANO UNOH after a very successful playing career at Ohio State. Eric proved to be one of the most valuable pitchers on the staff over his career at Ohio State. He posted a 16-9 career record, including a 7-4 mark in 2009 when Ohio State won the Big Ten championship, and saved 14 games. Eric ranks fourth at Ohio State in career saves, a total that includes eight saves in 2008, the seventh-highest total for a single season in school history. He also appeared in 91 career games to rank third all-time at Ohio State. During his collegiate career, Eric played summer baseball with the Granville Settlers in the Great Lakes League under the coaching of Kory Hartman. In the summer of 2008, he played in the Alaskan Baseball League for the Glacier Pilots. Coach Best is from Lewis Center, Ohio, and an alumni of Olentangy Liberty High School. During his high school baseball career, he was a first-team all-Ohio selection and Ohio Capital Conference Player of the Year as a senior; was 18-4 with a pair of saves in his career; struck out 189 and had a 1.70 ERA in 119 career innings. “Eric brings with him an energy that is intoxicating and a passion for helping players that is unmatched. His experience both on and off the field at Ohio State will be invaluable when it comes to molding this young, but very capable UNOH pitching staff.” - Coach Hartman Eric graduated from The Ohio State University in June 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in Human Ecology. He is pursuing his master’s degree and teacher licensure in Integrated Mathematics.

Ryan was a 3-year All-SWBL and a 3-year All -Area player at Brookville High School. As a career .400 hitter, Ryan led Brookville to their first district title game in 15 years. Ryan was also a 2-time All-Conference football player, where he was voted MVP his senior year. “Ryan has made incalculable strides from a defensive standpoint and will be counted on as a utility guy this spring. A hard worker who will press his teammates for playing time, Ryan has impressed me with his dedication and commitment to becoming a better person.”

Ryan is the son of Matt and Sheri Ekberg, who reside in Brookville, Ohio. He is majoring in Sport Management & Business Administration.

Ronny is one of three local players to suit up for the Racers in 2011. From Elida High School, Ronny joined the Racers baseball program in the late fall. Ronny posted a 4-1 record during his senior year campaign, which was highlighted by a 3-hit complete game. “Ronny demonstrated in the fall that he has the desire and fortitude to play college baseball. With added strength and maturity, Ronny could see innings at the Varsity level.” Ronny is the son of Karen Milam, who resides in Elida, Ohio. He is majoring in Network Computer Forensics & Business Administration.

Tyler Wilburn is one of two recruits on the Racers 2011 roster who graduated from Little Miami High School. Tyler won three varsity letters and was named to the FAVC All-Conference team, both his junior and senior year. “Tyler encompasses all the tools that we look for and will compete for early playing time in the Outfield. He runs extremely well and, while his fall season was plagued with injuries, Tyler showed the coaching staff that he has the ability to become an everyday player for us.” Tyler is the son of Guy and Jenni Wilburn, who reside in Maineville, Ohio. He is majoring in Business Administration.

DYLAN // BRAMMER

Dylan comes from Vincennes University where he helped lead them to the Division II Junior College World Series in 2010. A three-sport varsity athlete from Mishawaka Marian High School, Dylan will be called upon to lead this 1st-year program on and off the field in 2011. After enjoying a very successful two years at junior college, Dylan was one of the 1st upper classmen who Coach Hartman signed for the Racers inaugural year. “Dylan is unique in that he is one of only a few players that I have ever coached who has the ability to become a true dual threat. His offensive production speaks for itself, but Dylan also has the ability to dominate hitters from the mound with his 87-90mph fastball and plus off-speed.”

Dylan is the son of Michael and Lisa Brammer, who reside in Boyaton Beach, Florida. He is majoring in Marketing.

Zyler was regarded as one of the top middle infielders coming out of the state of Kentucky in the class of 2010. A four-year-letter award winner from Tates Creek High School, Zyler was named to the All-City team twice, once in 2009 and again in 2010. A vibrant infielder who possess 6.8 60yd speed, secured his position this fall by demonstrating his ability to play fundamental baseball. “Zyler is one of the most exciting baseball players who I have coached in my 11 years. His range will be unmatched by any 2B in the conference, and with experience and maturity, Zyler has a chance to become a very special player for UNOH.” Zyler is the son of Aaron and Melinda Cosby who reside in Lexington, Kentucky. He is majoring in Business Administration.

A smooth-hitting lefty, Alex McKinstry joins the UNOH baseball program after a celebratory career at North Side High School. A three-time All-Conference selectee and male athlete of the year winner at North Side, Alex will be looked to secure the shortstop position for the Racers in the spring. His career 175 hits landed Alex in the record books for the state of Indiana, where he is currently #4. Alex collected 11 hits in 36 at bats this fall with three triples and 13 walks. His impressive average of .306 was outperformed by the strides he made defensively. “Alex is a very electrifying player whose work ethic is unmatched. His desire to get better, along with his resistance to lose will help carry us in the spring. “

Alex is the son of Alex and Tracy McKinstry, who reside in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He is majoring in Business Administration with concentration in Marketing.

Michael comes from one of the most powerful high school programs in the country, where USA Today had Florida Christian ranked nationally in the top 10 all year long. A four-year varsity letter winner, Michael earned All-County honorable mention his senior year. After a delayed fall season due to an Achilles tendon strain, Michael posted a 5.63 ERA. This highly touted freshman will see early action out of the Racers’ bullpen come spring. “Michael will be a very successful college pitcher once he learns how to command the strike zone and pitch with confidence. “ Michael is the son of Miguel and Jennifer Ozuna and has one younger brother who, reside in Miami, Florida. He is majoring in Forensic Accounting.

JUAN // ESPINOSA

Juan was born in Havana, Cuba but grew up in Miami, Florida from age four. He attended Florida Christian High School, which was ranked by USA Today as a top ten High School baseball team in the country, where he was selected All-Miami Dade. He has a good work ethic and performed well in the fall. If he continues to improve his performance, Juan has the chance to be a great asset for UNOH this spring. “Juan shows a mid 90’s fastball with great command of his breaking pitches. His fastball movement has late arm side run with depth that will keep hitters off guard. If he learns to locate all three pitches, he has a chance to do great things this spring.” Juan is the son of Juan and Bibiana Espinosa, who reside in Miami, Florida. He is majoring in Forensic Accounting.

Chris is a junior college transfer from Chesapeake College. A solid .265 career hitter, Chris collected 40 RBI’s his sophomore year while spending much of his playing time behind the plate. In high school, Chris celebrated a long list of accolades, which included being selected to Team Maryland, Brookes Robinson All-Star Team along with being named to the Under Armour Top Prospect list. This versatile player will miss the 2011 season due to surgery and will be looked upon to add experience and leadership to the 2012 season. “Chris is the definition of what it means to be a great teammate. We will be excited to have him back on the field next year and look for big things from him in 2012.” Chris is the son of Gary and Lisa Bell, who reside in Leonardtown, MD. He is majoring in Business Administration.

KYLE // JEFFRIES

Kyle was selected to the All-District and All-OCC teams at Pickerington North High School. His junior year he led his team to the Division I state championship game, finishing as state runner-up. Kyle was also a member of the National Honor Society. “Kyle will be one of two players competing for the starting spot behind the dish this season. He showed this fall that his arm strength was sufficient enough to throw runners out at the college level, but his technique needs to improve in order to consistently lower his pop time. With much needed improvement, Kyle will become the catalyst that we are looking for to run this team.” Kyle is the son of Clint and Alana Jeffries, who reside in Pickerington, Ohio. He is majoring in Forensic Accounting.

Robert graduated from Springboro High School in 2008 and continued his playing days at Miami University - Middeltown in 2009 and 2010 where he was selected to the 1st Team All-OCC. Robert led the Thunderhawks in HR’s, RBI’s and doubles his sophomore year. Rob was one of 8 players who made Dean’s List this past fall. “Rob will see playing time this spring at a multiple of positions due to his offensive performance that we saw from him during the fall season. I am excited to see the adjustments that Rob has been working on throughout the off-season with Coach Eaton and how that will translate to spring production.” Robert is the son of William and Susan Riley, who reside in Springboro, Ohio. He is majoring in Business Administration/Sport Management.

Phillip was regarded as one of the top out-fielding prospects coming out of the state of Kentucky in 2010 where he earned All-State honors his senior year. Phillip earned 5 varsity letters at Tates Creek high school and was selected to the All-Lexington City Team. Playing centerfield for the Kentucky Baseball Club, coach Goins called PD a “gem” and that he was the best out-fielder he had ever coached. “Phillip is an outstanding baseball player, but is even a better person. I expect PD to do great things this spring, and he has earned the respect of both his teammates and coaching staff.” Phillip is the son Mike Donovan and Karen Sullivan, who reside in Lexington, Kentucky. He is majoring in Business Administration with concentration in Marketing.

Jeremy White was selected All-Ohio and All-GCL after posting a .448 batting average his senior year at Elder High School. Jeremy played a vital role for Elder in the state semi-final game, as he collected 1 of 3 hits and scored their only run in a 1-0 win against Cincinnati’s perennial powerhouse Moeller High School. Jeremy received 2nd Team All-State honors concluding the 2010 season and was highly recruited out of HS. “Jeremy will be counted on for late innings off the mound. His unconventional delivery and arm slot proved to be viable this fall and gave UNOH Racers frets throughout the fall season.” Jeremy is the son of Jerry and Karen White, who reside in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is majoring in Business Administration with conenctration in Marketing.

Eric comes to UNOH after being selected to the Miami Dade All-City team his senior year. Rated as a top prospect by Perfect Game, Eric played a major role in the success of the LaSalle High School baseball program. “Eric is an outstanding young man who has a passion for the game. Eric will need to prove himself offensively at the college level as he moves forward in the program. Eric could see early at bats this season for the young Racers out of the DH role.” Eric is the son of Salvador and Ana Rodriguez, who reside in Miami, Florida. He is majoring in Forensic Accounting.

Son of coach Greg Eaton and high school teammate of Ryan Ekberg, Tyler was named to the All-SWBL Conference Team during his senior year at Brookville. Tyler celebrated a 15-3 record off the mound, which was highlighted by a 1 hitter in the spring of 2010. This switch hitting MIF/RHP will compete for early playing time come spring. “What excited me most about Tyler is the fact that he is a two-way player who has shown success at both positions. Tyler will be a platoon guy who will swing between Varsity and Junior Varsity in his first year.” A very dominant pitcher at times, Tyler will need to move the ball around and keep it low in the zone in order to have the success we saw from him in high school. Tyler is the son of Greg and Becky Eaton, who reside in Kettering, Ohio. He is majoring in Business Administration with concentration in Marketing.

Pichi completed a heralded high school career by winning the Florida 6A State Championship at Flanagan HS, earning his team - USA Today National Championship honors. Pichi was the winning pitcher in the state semi-final game, personally finishing the season with an impressive 12-1 record. Pichi was selected as the Florida 6A high school “Pitcher of the Year” and was selected as a High School AllAmerican by the USA Today. “Pichi is one of the most decorative players in the 2010 class and we expect him to have a great offensive year for us. With an infectious personality and an unparalleled work ethic, Pichi has the ability to do great things while playing at UNOH.”

Pichi is the son of Willy and Carmen Torres who reside in Miami, Florida. He is majoring in Business Administration with concentration in Marketing.

Thomas Jordan comes to the University of Northwestern Ohio from Madison Christian High School in Columbus, Ohio where he was a three-year captain. He was selected 1st Team All-Mocal and All-District his senior season. A member of the National Honor Society, Thomas was awarded All-Academic Scholar nomination in 2010. “Thomas is a pitcher who understands his limitations and uses both sides of the plate very well. After a very impressive October, Thomas will have to prove once again come spring that he has the ability and fortitude to get college hitters out.” Thomas is the son of Weldon and Carol Jordan, who reside in Columbus, Ohio. He is majoring in Accounting with the CPA Track.

A sure-handed middle infielder who will only get better with maturity and time spent in the weight room. Alex was named 1st Team All-Conference his senior year at Madison Comprehensive High School, which was ranked 11th in the state of Ohio. This very decorated player added one more accolade to his well-established list during his 2010 campaign, being named “Defensive Player of the Year.” “Alex showed his willingness to change old habits and grow as a college baseball player this fall. His countless hours before and after practice proved to be immeasurable as he fielded .980 this October.” Alex is the son of Jerry Czernewski and Shannon Gilcrest, who reside in Mansfield, Ohio. He is majoring in Sport Management & Business Administration.

Austin comes to UNOH as a junior college transfer after playing 2 years at Wabash Valley College in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. While with the Warriors in 2010, Austin posted a 4-0 record, as well as a 1.09 ERA over 24.2 innings. His experience and leadership both on and off the field will be very beneficial to the young program. “Austin has been as impressive off the field as he has been on the field thus far. We expect him to do big things as a starter for the Racers in 2011. “ Austin is the son of Mike and Karen Park, who reside in Elburn, IL. He is majoring in Business Administration.

Ryan comes to UNOH from CBCC-Cantonsville in Baltimore, MD. IN his sophomore season of junior college he posted a 6-2 record with a 2.8 ERA in 42 innings. His freshman year of junior college, he attended Chesapeake College in Wye Mills, MD, where he posted a 5-0 record and recorded 10 saves, which was in the top ten nationally amongst Division 1 junior college closers, as well as a Chesapeake College record. Ryan earned 1st team All-Region XX honors, as well as 1st team All-Conference. Tyler was also chosen as Scholar Athlete for Van Wert HS in 2010. “Tyler has a very good frame for a pitcher and throws from a high ¾ arm slot with plenty of late movement. Not a particular hard thrower, but with his ability to command his off-speed, Tyler has enough arm strength to pitch inside. With continued work and effort, he will have a chance to pitch for the Racers coming out of the bullpen this spring.” Tyler is the son of Dennis and Laura Putman, who reside in Van Wert, Ohio. A prototypical leadoff hitter who showed the ability to hit to all sides of the field, Curtis will be looked upon to challenge his teammates early in spring for playing time.” Curtis is the son of Anthony and Lise Lambkin, who reside in Belle River Ontario, Canada. A 2-year varsity letterman who pitched in a variety of roles, Ryan was named Honorable Mention in the GMC, going 2-0 with 5 saves. “Ryan will have to command the strike zone and use his ability to compete in order to see innings at the varsity level his first year. A low 80’s fastball from the left side, Ryan showed that he has the capability of getting college hitters out in the fall.” Ryan is the son of Milton Carpenter and Christina Wagers, who reside in Fairfield, Ohio. After attending Blue Ridge CC, Kevin transferred to Vincennes University where he became teammates with Dylan Brammer and helped guide Vincennes to the Division II Junior College World Series in 2010. “Kevin is your prototypical 1B who swings from the left side. As good as Kevin has been on the field, he has been as impressive off the field and in the classroom. Making Dean’s List, Kevin will be challenged by the young talent and will have to produce offensively to secure his place in the lineup this spring.” Kevin is the son of Dana and Tracy Cyrus, who reside in Holland, Michigan. He is majoring in Marketing.

With a brother who has pitched in the Big Leagues, Zach strives to follow in the same footsteps. “Zach showed an 87-90mph fastball this fall and will be looked upon to lead this staff off the mound come spring. With continued work on his delivery and off-speed pitches, he has a chance to pitch at the next level.”

Justin had a dominating pitching performance in the Nitzwitz Tournament at Wright State University against the Cincinnati Flames that propelled his Ohio Heat team to the tournament championship game. “Justin demonstrated in the fall that his upper 80’s fastball coupled with his plus breaking pitches were good enough to secure him a spot in the starting rotation for early spring. With continued growth and understanding of the game, Justin has a chance to play at the next level.” Justin is the son of Tony and Alice Binegar, who reside in Hamilton, Ohio. He is majoring in Business Administration.

A very hard worker who will compete for the starting role at catcher this spring, Kael will be called upon to lead this young and talented pitching staff. “Kael excels off the field as well, working with his teammates to get through their marketing and accounting classes. If Kael continues to work on his arm strength and receiving, he will solidify his playing time this spring.” Kael is the son of Kevin and Tara Campbell. Being selected twice to the Fort Ancient Valley Conference 1st Team in both 2009 and 2010, Mikel hit .397 and .439 respectively. “Mikel is a remarkable young man who has great upside in his body frame and athleticism. With added time in the weight room, Mikel could see playing time in a very competitive outfield for us this season.” Mikel is the son of Robert and Sandra Sechrist, who reside in Maineville, Ohio. Anthony currently holds two baseball records at Vermilion, which include least amount of runs given up in a year and most wins in a season. “In order for Anthony to become a dominant pitcher at the college level, Anthony must mature mentally to parallel his upper 80’s fastball and powerful breaking pitches.”

Rob will be receiving a medical redshirt in 2011 due to a season ending injury in 2010, which led to surgery. “Signing Rob solidified our projected starting rotation for the spring, but with unfortunate news of his injury, Rob revealed his true passion for the game as he will sit this year out and rehab for the 2012 season.” Rob is the son of Pat and Paula Wilson, who reside in Brantford Ontario, Canada. Missing the fall season due to an unfortunate wrist injury, Preston will have to work hard this winter to prepare for spring. “In order for Preston to see playing time this year, he must become and remain healthy. He possesses an 8384mph fastball with command of his breaking pitches and, with added experience, Preston has a chance to become a very successful college pitcher.” Preston is the son of Rich and Trisha Thompson, who reside in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is majoring in Sport Management & Business Administration.

A big, hard-throwing lefty, Ben was 5-1 at the College of Lake County. Recording 48 K’s in 50 innings, Ben will compete for a starting role for the Racers in 2011. One of three Canadians on the roster for Coach Hartman, Ben showed well this fall and has worked hard to add much needed movement to his mid 80’s fastball. “Ben has really shown his coachable spirit by working with Coach Best on adding movement to his fastball. We expect that Ben will mirror the success that he experienced at CLC here at UNOH and become a true leader for our younger pitchers this season.” Ben is the son of Bentley and Trina Ehgoetz, who reside in Stratford, Ontario, Canada. He is majoring in Business Administration.
