CONTENTS Welcome from Debbie Hamlett
OnAugust 28, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr gave his famous “I have a dream” speech to 250,000 people on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. Dr. King maintained a vision for a more diverse America where all people enjoyed the benefits of equality. While King and other leaders generated momentous strides for equality, the push for civil rights remains a challenge today. Tune in for our program THE MARCH AT 60: A BLACK NOUVEAU SPECIAL that looks at what happened to civil rights progress that occurred as a result of the Great March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. Sixty years later, while there has been some progress, we are still a nation sharply divided by race and economic opportunity.
Summer is in full swing with a variety of festivals I’ll be exploring. I spent the day at SummerFest recently which was so much fun for a music lover. Festivals are one way to experience different foods, artists, music and culture. Milwaukee PBS is another way, I don’t know about you but I’ve traveled extensively with RICK STEVES for years!
