Do you like singing, and more especially, do you like singing Bach? If the answer is ‘yes’, the Dorset Bach Cantata Club would love to hear from you. This unique choir is looking for new members, to join them for a study weekend of rehearsing and performing There is no audition, and you will find a very warm welcome. The Dorset Bach Cantata Club was founded in 1955, and has been meeting regularly ever since. As the name implies, the DBCC meets to rehearse, study and perform some of the great cycle of cantatas composed by JS Bach. Because this very special choir only meets on three weekends a year (February, May and October) it is ideal for those who already sing regularly, but would also like to experience something a bit different. The choir sings in German, but you do not need to be a German speaker, as help is given with pronunciation and translations are provided. As it is a study weekend rather than for a formal performance the choir sections sing all the arias and recitatives as well as the choruses and chorales. The singers rehearse intensively on Saturday and an invited orchestra joins on Sunday, with an informal performance to friends and family at the end of the afternoon. Some advance preparation will pay dividends, and music is available to download and print for free from the DBCC website. The next weekend is 12 and 13 February 2022, meeting at Sturminster Newton High School, DT10 1DT. The fee for singers is £40 per weekend. The works to be studied are BWV 179 (Siehe zu, dass deine Gottesfurcht) and BWV 186 (Ärgre dich, O Seele, nicht). The weekend will be conducted by Christopher Brown, composer, teacher, Associated Board examiner, and lifelong enthusiast of the music of Bach, as both conductor and singer. Full details are available on the Dorset Bach Cantata Club website https://info073404.wixsite.com>dbcc or by emailing the Secretary at dorsetbach_sec@hotmail.com

Jabs available to all those eligible

By Faith Eckersall

Health and care leaders in Dorset are urging local people to grab their jab now, with increased walk-ins available around the county in the drive to get people triple-jabbed. They say the county has ramped up its covid-19 vaccination programme rapidly, to offer first, second or booster doses to all adults and children who are eligible – and there are now sites offering walk-ins every day. In the first week of the ramped-up programme, staff vaccinated over 68,000 people, up nearly 62 per cent on the previous week. Clinical lead for the Dorset vaccination programme, Dr Andy Rutland, said: “It’s been an amazing effort by the NHS and its partners to make so many more slots available so quickly. I’d urge anyone who needs a first, second or booster dose not to waste any time and come along to see us at a site near you.” Director of Nursing, Therapies and Quality at Dorset HealthCare, Dawn Dawson, said: “Getting your vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and others from becoming seriously ill with covid-19. We’d like everyone to go into the New Year with hope and getting your vaccine is an important step towards a safer 2022.” Both adults and children can take up the walk-in offer – children aged 12-15 can attend the three larger centres at King’s Park Hospital, Bournemouth, Sentinel House, Poole and Vespasian House, Dorchester. They must be accompanied by an adult who can give consent for them to be vaccinated. More information from https://www.dorsetccg.nhs. uk/vaccinations/sites/ blackmorevale.net
