iMind, the exhibition title, stems from ongoing concepts that have been entertaining my thoughts lately. Mainly the word mind as verb, meaning regard, as in: this generation minds or cares about what is going on in the world. The notion of awareness and regard is at the core of the exhibit. Mind is interesting as noun and as verb. As noun, mind is defined as the element or complex elements in an individual that feels perceives, thinks, wills, and especially reasons. And as verb, mind is defined as to become aware, to notice, to regard with attention and consider important (Merriam Webster Online 2018). The duality of concepts of mind, noun/verb, reason/ regard, is what this series is attempting to merge with the introduction of iClouds, iHeads and technological inserts.

A Cloud is a network access of computing resources that can be rapidly accessed, released, and shared with minimal management effort or service provider interaction. This computing model is universal, convenient and on-demand. (Mell, Grance, 2011). The cloud network process might be similar to mind as verb and mind as noun. Somehow we are replicating the process of our mind in technology. Clouds, communication, globalization, and space-discoveries seem to be steering to a new renaissance based on shared communication. In a similar vein are natural clouds. They carry aggregates of charged particles. Clouds are visible masses of particles of condensed vapor suspended in the atmosphere of a planet or in deep space. Clouds carry information that, like Clouds and minds, can upload and download wirelessly. Natural clouds carry energy.

This exhibit tries to overlap the energy of mind and clouds by making visual the imaginary wave patterns of uploads and downloads. Clouds, iMinds, clones, natural clouds, and minds, all have invisible energy patterns that transfer and transform data into wave patterns. The iconography in the work is imaginary and an effort to depict how data travels from Clouds to minds into iMind (verb). iMind consists of a series of painted cutout plywood shapes. The plywood cutouts include Clouds and cloned heads with Cloud minds. The exhibit also includes meteorites conceptually related to depictions throughout the paintings. The media used is oil on plywood with Dorlands wax. The paintings have additions related to technology. For example, a small eye camera, the interior of a keyboard, and so forth. The exhibition is titled iMind and comprises Clouds, cloned heads, and meteorites.

Biography My great grandfather, great uncle, and mother were painters. At an early age, my mother enrolled me in life figure drawing classes with Cristina Galvez, a matured and influential artist in Peru, where I grew up. Learning art while young gave me the foundation to pursue art as a career. I received a Bachelor in Fine Art from Memphis College of Art in Memphis, Tennessee. A Master in Fine Art from The University of Texas at San Antonio, Texas, and completed Doctoral Studies in Psychology from Capella University’s online program in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Some highlights in my career include being awarded a Fellowship Grant from Oregon Arts Commission (2000), been semifinalist at the Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition, Smithsonian Institute, National Portrait Gallery, Washington D.C., among others. My exhibition record is solid through participation in national and international exhibits. My studio is in Southern Oregon with a view and at nights the stars shine bright. I like to hike the Redwoods on the West coast and commute to San Francisco regularly with my family, and Basset Hound dog Rajah. www.claudiamarchini.com
