Mace

The mace, presented to the University by the citizens of Guelph, is carried at the head of academic processions. It is topped by the silver crown of Queen Victoria, holds the insignia of Queen Elizabeth II and the founding colleges, and bears four plaques of the coat of arms of Canada, Ontario, the City of Guelph and the University. Sixteen symbols on the shank represent various college activities.

Crest

The three components of U of G’s crest — the crest, shield and motto — reflect our deep ties with the community in which we reside and our historical connection to the University of Toronto. The white stallion links the University to the House of Hanover, where the name “Guelph” has its origins. The shield combines a book, astrolabe and cornucopia, all symbols of things vitally important to the University’s identity.

Awards

University Professor Emeriti

The honour of University Professor Emeritus/Emerita may be given to a retired professor who continues their scholarly association with the University. The prime criterion for nominations will be sustained, outstanding scholarship that is recognized internationally.
