June, she successfully defended her dissertation entitled “Safety, Autonomy, Discrimination, and Religious Exemptions: Three Papers on How Long-Term Care Facility Staff Navigate Conflicting Rights.”

Angie Perone’s research probes the collision between the demand to keep long-term care facility residents safe and the conflicts that arise when making important medical decisions. “I wanted to find ways to support older adults and the people who care for them. As an attorney, I quickly realized that the law may not always be the best tool for resolving conflicts, and I increasingly began incorporating social science into my civil rights work.
