PROPEL YOUR CAREER FORWARD Although I have a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, professional development programs offered by the Centre for Continuing Education greatly enhanced my development as a working professional. Many employers are expecting more from their employees, and having certification in focused areas such as project management, business and management, communications, education and health will set you ahead of your competition. Not to mention the new business contacts you will make, new tools and knowledge you’ll gain, and new doors that will open for your career. Without innovation, organizations struggle to get ahead. The Project Management Certificate program prepared me to meet the challenges and expectations of an innovative organization. With this training I am able to contribute to new projects that propel my organization and my career forward. Ernest, Band Administrator Ocean First Nation

If you have previous work or volunteer experience or skills training, you can potentially earn university credits to use toward your degree program with Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (PLAR). “Throughout the [Certificate in Extended Studies in Inclusive Education] I was able to build confidence in myself as an individual, and as a collaborative team member, while gaining insight into the world of the Student Support Teacher. It is for these reasons I highly recommend the Inclusive Ed Certificate for any teacher who is interested in expanding their knowledge in Inclusive Education and who wish to develop personally and professionally within their school divisions.” Jenn Chan, Learning Consultant For information on program admission and course registration, visit our website at www.uregina.ca/cce or call Student & Instructor Services (credit programs) at 306 585-5807.

GET THE RIGHT JOB QUALIFICATIONS I decided to enroll in the Local Government Authority Certificate program because as a person who has spent the last twelve years working with all different levels of government, I saw a growing need for qualified people in this role. This program provided me with the opportunity to learn from professors with real-life and relatable experiences. The knowledge gained in this course is diverse, and I’ve been able to apply both the theoretical and practical knowledge to my personal life as well as professional life. The online environment and flexibility of the program allowed me to work through it at my own pace, taking as many or as few classes as I felt I could while working around my work and personal schedules. I strongly encourage anyone considering running for municipal council or pursuing a career in politics or public service at all to take this program. Ferne, LGA & ALGA Certificate Student

BECOME CONFIDENT IN YOUR ENGLISH SKILLS Before I came to Canada, I was not able to speak English. I just knew a few words and greetings. It was after I enrolled in the ESL customized program through my employer that everything changed. After taking my first few lessons I was able to communicate with my teacher and classmates. Also, I became more confident outside of the classroom, so I was capable of going to grocery stores and shopping centres without the fear of not being able to express myself and ask for information. This fall the group will be offering the opportunity for beginners to engage with this unique dance style. Find more information about the group at www.flamencoregina.com. Hitchhikers Improv Company is an improvisational company based in Regina, SK. Conservatory Creative Preschool PROFESSIONAL INSTRUCTION. POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT.

2, 3 OR 5 HALF-DAY SESSIONS PER WEEK (ages 3-4)

At the Conservatory of Performing Arts we believe that engagement in the fine arts is an essential piece of the healthy development of all young people. The Creative Preschool Program continues our long-standing tradition of offering leading arts education programs to the Southern Saskatchewan community and is an augmentation of our suite of early learning courses. In its second year, the Conservatory Creative Preschool instructors will supplement the curriculum recommended by the Saskatchewan government by drawing on Conservatory resources including: the pottery studio, access to instruments (violins,

guitars, keyboards and percussion), painting and drawing, and dance studios to enrich the preschool experience and foster an early foundational love for the creative arts. NEW: We will be utilizing the Kindermusik ABC & MeÂŽ curriculum throughout the year in the classroom to supplement the already diverse fine arts offerings. $100 for materials. Day

CHILD/PARENT STRINGS CHILD/PARENT STRINGS PROGRAM (starting ages 4-6)

Our Child/Parent Strings program runs as a supplement to private instruction in violin or cello for young beginners. A weekly half-hour individual with a weekly 45-minute group class for you and your child, is a great way to introduce your child to playing, and give you the tools to help your child succeed in learning their new instrument. Group classes encourage learning to play as an ensemble, connecting with other students, polishing performance pieces, building community, and reviewing repertoire. Students are encouraged to add a 45-minute group theory class only after the first year. Students who start in September will take private lessons only, until the instructor feels they are ready for the group component. On the first class all groups will be meeting at 5:00pm regardless of playing level to go over group placements, jam together, and allow an opportunity for the teachers to meet with parents. Please note: Group class start time depends on playing level; fee pro-rated depending on start date. Theory class runs before or after the regular group class. Group Class

EXOPLANETS: “STRANGE NEW WORLDS”  NEW

Since antiquity man has pondered the existence of worlds around other stars, but until recently no answers have been forthcoming. In the last few decades improvements in technology have given us the answer to this question, but it has also raised new questions. How common are these other worlds? What are they like? Is our solar system unique? Are these worlds inhabited? Come with us on a journey as we explore

SOCIAL STUDIES – HISTORY, POLITICS, RELIGION & MORE 2016 USA ELECTION  NEW

The 2016 USA election has brought forth an exciting contest: there is no incumbent and the races in both parties have been unusual, to say the least. Who could have guessed a while ago that a controversial billionaire and a democratic socialist would be contenders? The course will look at the very confusing and unusual primary and caucus system used in the United States to choose the two winning candidates and how their campaigns are waged. We will see how the strange electoral college finally chooses the next President. Day

CARBON CAPTURE IN SASKATCHEWAN  NEW

This two-part series will look at the adoption of Clean Coal/Carbon Capture technology in Saskatchewan. The first presentation will examine the science side of SaskPower’s Boundary Dam Carbon Capture Project, explaining how it works and what led to this innovation. SaskPower uses coal to generate about half of its electricity. In order to continue to use coal under the federal government’s regulations, Boundary Dam Power Station Unit 3 was rebuilt and a CO2 capture plant was added. This project allows SaskPower to capture, reuse and store greenhouse gases instead of releasing them to the atmosphere. The second presentation will provide a social analysis of this technology and of its implementation on a commercial scale in Saskatchewan. Saskatchewan is home to the first commercial scale post-combustion carbon capture plant in the world. This offers a unique opportunity to understand the social context of successful carbon capture technology. Day

GENDER: THEORIES & PRACTICES  NEW

This course is a comparative investigation of gender ideology. We will examine the many ways that gender/sex is related to society and culture. In particular, we will look at the ways in which social and cultural practices produce gendered practices and behaviours. These form the basis of what is considered acceptable and what is anticipated. Based on this, society rewards and punishes gender/sex performance and adherence. We will examine feminist and queer theories of gender/sex. We will also cross-culturally examine gender/sex practices including systems of belief and practice (aka religion) across a spectrum of historical and geopolitical locations, e.g., modern Eurowest, ancient Greece, early Modern France, 20th century Turkey, among other locations and historical periods. MAKING SENSE OF MONSTERS

This presentation will survey the shared characteristics of such varied monsters as vampires, zombies, the Windigo, and werewolves. It will be argued that these quite different creatures share a surprisingly consistent set of common features, and that they do so because they reflect a shared social anxiety: the fear of cannibalism, itself a metaphor for broader acts of exploitative social behavior. The cannibal-monster is a fixed type precisely because it expresses fundamental human anxieties. Day
