CUSTOMIZED TRAINING BUILDS STRONGER LEADERS I enrolled in a Leadership Development Program through the University of Regina, which was customized for my organization. Never have I participated in any type of learning that so directly related to improving my performance, that tied so many of the relevant threads together, and was so directly beneficial to my goal of growing as a leader both at work and in my personal life. What I am learning in this program also translates seamlessly into my personal life. I am a Board member of two local organizations, and being more skilled at conflict resolution, coaching and active listening has made me more effective. I am very appreciative of my company investing in me and my colleagues in this manner. It makes me want to strive to be a better employee, to give back to show that their faith in me was justified. “Throughout the [Certificate in Extended Studies in Inclusive Education] I was able to build confidence in myself as an individual, and as a collaborative team member. It is for these reasons I highly recommend this program for any teacher who is interested in expanding their knowledge in Inclusive Education and who wish to develop personally and professionally within their school divisions.” Jenn, Learning Consultant

CERTIFICATE IN ADMINISTRATION IS A GREAT FIRST STEP TO A BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION DEGREE Two years ago I was facing some major life changes and part of that was what to do for a career. I had operated a day home for children for 13 years and knew it was time to look at doing something different. What I did know was that going back to school after being out of school for 20 years was going to be a challenge. [My advisor] took the time to go through many of the options between taking a certificate to getting a degree. I was hesitant as I didn’t know if the degree program would be ideal for me. She explained the benefits of starting with the certificate and then laddering into the diploma then the degree program. I could apply for jobs that require minimum certificate courses and then I could work towards my degree while still working. This was very appealing to me as I could complete it at my own pace without feeling pressure. After completion of the certificate I have started to work towards my degree by doing some qualifying classes. I look forward to continuing my education through the University and feel like the job opportunities, with furthering my education, will be greater. I just knew a few words and greetings. It was after I enrolled in the ESL customized program through my employer that everything changed. After taking my first few lessons I was able to communicate with my teacher and classmates. Also, I became more confident outside of the classroom, so I was capable of going to grocery stores and shopping centres without the fear of not being able to express myself and ask for information. CHILD/PARENT STRINGS CHILD/PARENT STRINGS PROGRAM (STARTING AGES 4-6)
Our Child/Parent Strings program runs as a supplement to private instruction in violin or cello for young beginners. A weekly half-hour individual lesson with a weekly 45-minute group class for you and your child is a great way to introduce your child to playing and give you the tools to help your child succeed in learning their new instrument. Group classes encourage learning to play as an ensemble, polishing performance pieces, reviewing repertoire, building community and connecting with other students. Students are encouraged to add a 45-minute group theory class only after the first year. Students start with private lessons and move into group when your instructor feels you are ready. Group class start time depends on playing level; fee pro-rated depending on start date. Please ask your violin/ cello instructor about joining this group. SUZUKI PIANO SUZUKI PIANO (STARTING AGES 4-7)
Using the concept “All children can learn”, the Suzuki method of teaching music uses the methodology of language training to develop the language of music in your child, seeking to develop the whole child through the study of music, with the main goal of creating beautiful hearts. Children will learn to play the piano through their natural senses - hearing, touch and imitation with the close involvement of one of their parents. The Suzuki method involves educating parents to provide a musically rich environment for your child at home and to assist at practice times. SUZUKI PIANO WITH STELA POPA
Join Stela for both a weekly half-hour individual lesson and a weekly 45-minute group class. Students are placed in groups according to their playing level. The number of individual lessons, as well as the day and time of the week, is determined with the instructor. Please ask Stela for days/times. Day

MULTISENSORY BALANCE: EMPOWER YOUR BODY
Multisensory training focuses on the five senses—sight, sound, touch, smell and hearing. Over time, some of these senses become weaker but can be retrained to improve function and safety. This course will focus on balance, gait, muscle strength and coordination through use of the five senses. Your balance will be challenged in a safe environment by using techniques to improve your posture, strength and body awareness. This course is ¾ multisensory training for balance and ¼ strength training. Using circuit training, this course will stimulate your senses to function better in everyday activities.

SOCIAL STUDIES – HISTORY, POLITICS, RELIGION & MORE AFRICAN TRADITIONAL RELIGIONS NEW
This course will explore African Traditional Religions. Before the advent of Christianity and Islam and other mid-eastern religions, Africans had a strong belief in the divine. JESUS IN THE GOSPEL OF JOHN: HISTORY, FICTION, THEOLOGY NEW
The Gospel of John is too frequently neglected in historical studies of ancient Christianity, not least because of its strange and unrealistic depiction of Jesus, who seems to be far too self-referential and arrogant for modern tastes. This class will explore the presentation of Jesus in the fourth gospel with a view to its historical context and the author’s theological and literary agendas. It is to be hoped that students will acquire a new appreciation for a historically-important but now rather “unfashionable” text. Day

KEEPING DEMOCRACY SAFE NEW
Democracy is revered as the political structure that best achieves the goals of efficacy, fairness and legitimacy. Given the inevitable coercive power of states, these are important moral objectives. But does democracy actually guarantee their achievement? Hardly. Although democracy bases the holding of political power on popular consent, it only meets these moral objectives when power is placed within complex structures of politics and statecraft. The fair and just exercise of state power depends on the presence of a myriad of structures that stand outside the basic democratic condition of popular approval. In this course we will look at the structural and ethical conditions that keep democracy safe. We will consider what limits there should be on the undemocratic constraints of political power. We will examine some democratic states in which democracy has been broken. And we will explore why the promise of a democratic world seems as far away as ever. Day

FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN: ONE FEAR TO RULE THEM ALL?
Psychologists have long been interested in understanding the root causes of fear and anxiety, which has led to explorations for identifying our most basic or fundamental fears. Recent theory and research has allowed us to build increasingly defensible criteria for identifying our fundamental fears. The resulting analyses have suggested that we have many different kinds of fears that can be structured in a hierarchy. Current thinking

suggests that the most fundamental of those fears may well be fear of the unknown. The presentation will rapidly and provocatively present the evidence, as well as the theoretical and practical implications for navigating our interactions with unknowns. Day

WALKING THE HALDIMAND TRACT: SURRENDER NO. 40
In 1784, some 950,000 acres in the Grand River valley was reserved for the Six Nations (or Haudenosaunee) people, who had lost their homeland in New York State because they sided with the British during the American Revolution. That land became known as the Haldimand Tract. Today, the Six Nations reserve covers just five per cent of the Haldimand Tract; most of the rest of the land has been stolen by settlers. Ken Wilson grew up in Brantford, Ontario, a city in the Haldimand Tract. Two years ago, he discovered that most of that city is built on Haudenosaunee land. This discovery, and the fact that it took him so long to learn the truth, left him feeling angry and ashamed. As a gesture towards reconciliation, in June 2016 he walked 335 kilometres through the Haldimand Tract. This walk was a performance, a kind of pilgrimage, and an attempt to understand just how much land has been taken from the Haudenosaunee by settlers. In this talk, Wilson will recount the experience of the walk and discuss what he learned from it. Day
