WELCOME
I am so excited to welcome you here to Carolina, and I
one of our 13 organizations, but that you find a home here at Caro-
am elated that you have chosen to participate in Panhellenic
lina. Our team is fully committed to making this the best possible
Soroity Recruitment. The University of South Carolina has a large
experience for you, so please don’t hesitate to ask if you have a
and diverse fraternity and sorority life; I wholeheartedly believe
question or concern.
that joining our Greek community will add great value to your
experience at Carolina. Each and every one of our chapters offers a unique component to our community.
With well over 4,000 members, the Panhellenic community is
made up of many different types of women, but we all share the common values of scholarship, service, leadership, and friendship. We push each other to be the best women we can possibly be and
I wish you the best during your recruitment process, and
welcome home to Carolina!

Vice President of Recruitment
we work hard together to create and maintain a unified sorority community. At South Carolina, we deeply value each individual of the Greek community and want to ensure that each member has an experience of personal growth and development.
Three years ago, I was in your shoes and felt anxious about joining a Greek organization. Looking back now, those worries
seem so trivial compared to the incredible experience I have had as a Greek woman in this community. It’s okay to be nervous, I promise, but remember that everyone here is so excited to meet you. This is YOUR process and your journey. Make the most of this experience, keep an open mind, and take a deep breath.
During the next two weeks, you will make lasting friendships
that will continue during your collegiate years and beyond. Joining a sorority goes beyond your four years; remember throughout these two weeks that this is your life-long commitment. We hope you take the process seriously and value your conversations held with our chapter members. Our hope is that you not only find a home in

You will be assigned to two recruitment counselors who will help guide you and others in your Pi Chi Group through the recruitment process. A mandatory dinner with your Pi Chi will be provided during the orientation programming. Dress is very casual.

You will spend about 20 minutes with each chapter learning about their scholarship initiatives and academic success. These first two days are very casual, so please wear your recruitment T-shirt, shorts or a skirt, and comfortable shoes. When choosing your outfits we encourage you to remember you will be spending a large amount of time outside in the August heat!

spend about 35 minutes with each chapter while they show you a video that highlights their activities, sisterhood, tradition and friendship. Attire for this day is dressier, so please wear a sundress, skirt and top, or nice pants and top with dressy sandals or heels.
PREFERENCE ROUND
Saturday, Aug. 24
This round is a special ceremony intended for each chapter to showcase the bond they share as sisters. You will visit a maximum of two chapters and spend about one hour with each chapter. Due to the more formal nature of this day, please wear a cocktail or semi-formal dress or other appropriate attire.
BID DAY
Sunday, Aug. 26 This day is the grand finale of recruitment. Everyone will gather at the Colonial Life Arena in anticipation of the final bids. Membership bids are given out to the women who finish the recruitment process, and recruitment counselors reveal their chapter affiliation and reunite with their sisters. Please wear comfortable attire as this is an active and exciting day. Each sorority will give their new members a T-shirt or tank top to wear when they receive their bids.

What is a Pi Chi?
Recruitment counselors (or Pi Chis) will be assigned to you and
a small group of other potential new members (PNMs). They are current members of the Panhellenic community who temporarily leave their chapters behind to help you find your perfect fit.
These women are trained to assist students who are going
through the recruitment process. Each Pi Chi can provide information about campus, the Carolina community, the recruitment process and general chapter information. They are here to guide you and answer any questions you may have. Your Pi Chis are here to help you!
Please do not pressure your recruitment counselor into tell-
ing you her chapter affiliation. At the end of recruitment, all recruitment counselors will reveal the chapters they belong to and rejoin their sisters.
Please do not ask your Pi Chi to help you make your voting
decisions. This is YOUR lifelong membership, not your Pi Chi’s. Recruitment participants are encouraged to make their selections based on their own personal values.
WE HAVE PROVIDED SOME QUESTIONS SO YOU CAN LEARN MORE ABOUT YOUR PI CHI AND HER EXPERIENCE WITHIN OUR GREEK COMMUNITY. •
What does she love most about the sorority community?
•
Why did she join her organization?
•
What are some membership expectations for all sorority women?
•
What has been her favorite thing about serving as a Pi Chi?

MEMBERSHIP RECRUITMENT ACCEPTANCE BINDING AGREEMENT
This document is the Membership Recruitment Acceptance Binding Agreement (MRABA). The MRABA is a BINDING agreement that is
effective for Potential New Members that is effective for one calendar year. By signing this you agree that you are willing to accept a bid for membership from any sorority that you list on the MRABA. If you recieve an invitation to membership (a bid) from any sorority you listed on the MRABA, you are bound to that group for one calendar year (August 2019-August 2020). If you receive a bid from any sorority listed on your MRABA and you choose not to accept it, you are NOT eligible to participate in continuous open bidding in fall 2019 or spring 2020.
NPC member organizations are formally named sororities, fraternities or societies. All organizations are referred to as sororities by

I understand and agree to the terms outlined on page 65.
By signing this form I agree to accept a bid if it is offered from any of the women’s sororities I list below, and I agree I will be bound to

PLEASE READ AND INITIAL EACH OF THE FOLLOWING: I am willing to accept an invitation to membership from any sorority that I list on this agreement. I may limit my choices to just one OR list any sorority whose preference-round (last) event I attended, and from which I am willing to accept membership. I realize that by not listing the maximum number of events I attended, I may be limiting my potential to join any other NPC organization during primary recruitment should I not be placed with my choice(s). Once I submit this agreement to the College Panhellenic Association, I cannot change the order of my preferences or add or delete a preference. If I do not receive an invitation to membership from an organization that I have listed, I am eligible for continuous open bidding. I have the option of not submitting an agreement at this time. Once I submit this agreement, I am bound by the National Panhellenic Conference Unanimous Agreements, which state that if I receive an invitation to membership from a group that I have listed and then do not accept it, I am ineligible to be pledged until the beginning of the next primary membership recruitment period on the same campus.

About Sorority 101
Sorority 101 is an interactive educational program designed to
outline the membership commitment within the Greek community here at the University of South Carolina. Our goal is to explain the importance of the lifelong commitment you make when joining a Greek letter organization, as well as provide a transparent picture of the expectations of sorority membership on our campus. Potential New Members (PNMs) will hear from executive members of the College Panhellenic Association, New Member Educators of the 13 Panhellenic sororities, and Ginny Carroll, founder of Circle of Sisterhood.
The breakout sessions are designed to share various components of fraternity and sorority life as well as to prepare PNMs for their
first weeks on campus. PNMs should gain knowledge and tools to allow them to successfully manage expectations of their future chapter, become educated about campus norms surrounding the new member experience and learn about the philanthropic efforts of sorority women across the country.
Keynote Speaker
Ginny Carroll is passionate about building capacity, education and being a sorority woman. Not
only does Ginny have her own consulting business, which focuses on helping non-profit organizations build capacity, but she also founded a charitable organization in 2010 – the Circle of Sisterhood Foundation - that works to provide opportunity through education to girls and women around the world.
The Circle of Sisterhood is focused on leveraging the influence of sorority women to remove barri-
ers to education and strongly believes that educating and empowering girls will shape current and future global, economic and social prosperity. And sorority women, as the most educated women in the world, are the right community to be part of the solution. Ginny serves as the part-time Executive Director.
Prior to establishing her consulting business in 2001, Ginny worked for a software company in product development and prior to that
spent 15 years working for her national sorority – Alpha Xi (Zee) Delta. Ginny is a sorority woman who truly believes in the value of the sorority experience and the power of the sorority community to make the world a better place for girls. 66
