Phylum Class Order

“There is no fundamental difference between man and animals in their ability to feel pleasure and pain, happiness and misery” (Charles Darwin).

My project “Phylum Class Order” explores the theme of power between humanity and the animal kingdom. The evolution of Homo Sapiens as a species marked a new era in which mankind managed to climb to the top of the food chain. This allowed us to gain the upper hand on all other living creatures. Due to humanity’s impact on this planet, we have become responsible for life on earth as we know it and its preservation.

With this project, I want to pose the question “Who are we, to decide the fate of another organism?”

Home Before Sundown

Home before Sundown is a personal project which explores the current coronavirus pandemic, and its effect on my family.

The project is built up through an elliptical narrative, allowing the audience to make their own personal connections with the imagery. This project was shot in and around the Somerset hills and is a personal reflection on how these landscapes are made available to escape into and find a brief moment of peace and tranquillity amongst the horrors of the Coronavirus crisis.

The portraiture juxtaposes the landscapes observing moments of happiness and sadness, from experiencing a virtual wedding, to Thursday’s new ritual; the 8pm clap for the NHS.
