Everybody will begin their own NHS journey, from their first day as a student to beginning work as a qualified midwife. Everybody’s NHS journey is different, with routes leading to specialist clinical roles, education, management and governance. This talk will provide a first-person insight into the journey from midwife to ward manager, including the hurdles and pressures faced, and most importantly the passion and drive that will be so important to the new generation of NHS midwives.

Simon Browes worked in health promotion before joining the University of Nottingham as a student nurse in 1999. He now works as a Nurse Consultant in NHS primary care and integrated urgent care services, and before that practised for nearly two decades in community settings in the UK and New Zealand. Come to hear his stories of nurses and midwives working in and with communities (and each other) to improve health and provide care.
