About The University of Nottingham The University of Nottingham is one of the UK’s leading and most enterprising universities, committed to providing a truly inspiring and international education, and producing world-leading research. Described by The Sunday Times University Guide 2011 as ‘the embodiment of the modern international university’, The University of Nottingham has award-winning campuses in the UK, China and Malaysia. It is ranked in the UK’s top 10 and the world’s top 75 universities by the Shanghai Jiao Tong (SJTU) and the QS World University Rankings, placing it in the top 1% of all universities worldwide.
About the University The University has gained an outstanding international reputation for its world-class teaching and research and has won numerous awards including the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise in 2006 and 2007 and The Times Higher Award for ‘Entrepreneurial University of the Year’ in 2008. Our commitment to attracting the highest calibre staff and investing in research is further demonstrated through the two Nobel Prizes - for medicine and for economic sciences - awarded to Nottingham academics in 2003.
We are very well placed to prosper in an increasingly competitive and globalised environment, despite the economic turbulence currently experienced by many countries. We are a comprehensive University and our size and scale make us resilient and allow us to respond to new opportunities. Every year we attract increasing numbers of students whilst maintaining entry standards which are among the very highest in the country. We are fortunate in having quite extraordinary campuses which are a great benefit in student recruitment, and our campuses in Asia give us a unique asset in an increasingly globalised world. The University is facing its future with a renewed and expanded sense of purpose and vision, which is the result of a year-long internal consultation that culminated in our ‘Strategic Plan 2010-15’. We are making the plan widely available so our current and prospective staff, students and community and commercial partners understand what drives us, what we intend to achieve, and how they can be part of our success.
The University is described by The Times as ‘the nearest Britain has to a truly global university’. Our vision of an international education has taken us beyond what most other universities attempt through the establishment of campuses near Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, and in Ningbo, China, which between them have over 10,000 students. Together with the UK student community of over 34,000 students, a quarter of whom are international, this constitutes a unique learning environment with the largest number of international students of any British university. We are now acknowledged as a leader in the internationalisation of higher education, and our students come from more than 150 countries.
Six campuses in three countries
Our reputation for excellence in teaching and research across the full range of academic disciplines makes us one of the first choices for undergraduate and postgraduate students worldwide. We have five faculties: arts, engineering, medicine and health sciences, science, and social sciences. We have over 44,000 students and almost 8,000 members of staff worldwide.
The international campuses have been designed to emulate the landscape of University Park Campus and attract students and visitors from around the globe.
