Hi, my name is Brilliant Miya, The Black Diamond. I am 24 years old, I’m from Soweto, and I’m under Uzuri - Ua, recently managed by TJ, who is the founder and director. He discovered me at Ms. Spontaneous (Soweto), the first pageant I found out he was sponsoring, and then I got a wildcard when I entered Mr. and Mrs. Spontaneous (Tembisa).

I entered Ntombenhle Africa last year, the finals were supposed to be held last year, but due to the pandemic, the finals were held on the 18th of December 2021. The journey had its hardships and challenges, I remember in the finals, I had to pay for my accommodation and I did not have the money, but because of my approach, I approached my friend Rethabile to help me, and she had to travel all the way from Venda to North West just to accommodate me, but in the end it paid off. On the 18th December 2021, I was crowned the first queen of Ntombenhle Africa under the Vintage category.

Monate: Where and how did your modeling journey begin?

Brilliant: It started back in high school in the year 2012, when I joined Mr. & Mrs. Valentine's Global Secondary College. That time I went just for the sake of okay, my friend told me about it and I thought ‘why not?’ Then I didn’t make it, I posted until 2019 when I got approached again, because I’m a go-getter when it comes to everything else but not for pageants. I have been on stage for body building, and I won, no questions asked, but with pageants, you have to do a whole lot of things, such as charity work, multimedia, you have to be a person of character, and you have to behave, which is good. So it's a learning curve for me, when I was crowned the first time as Queen of Hammanskraal Royals, on the 27th of November 2021. That was the first day I started believing in myself that yes! I am the queen, I am The Black Diamond and I own it, so pushing through to this moment, I am Queen of Ntombenhle Africa 2021.

Monate: As someone who has won two beauty pageants in 2021, do you think there are certain steps that one should follow in order to win, or is there a secret that you have learned which you could share with people to help them win in beauty pageants?

Brilliant: As someone who had been crowned twice this year, I would say there is a secret, trust me The secret is that you have to believe in yourself first, for people to start believing in you, because you are a queen before you are crowned. Firstly you have to be kind, you have to be open, you have to give back to the community, you have to be ready to work and work hard, not just for the sake of the cameras, it has to be from the heart.

Brilliant: You have to start by following the Facebook page, that’s where the updates are, and their website is www.ntombenhleafrica.co.za which is where you will get more information on how to join and when registrations open

Monate: What would you like people to know about you, which you think people do not know?

Brilliant: One thing that I faced as a child was bullying, I was bullied because of my skin colour, I was bullied because I didn't have a father nearby, he’s alive, but he didn't raise me, so that had an impact in the way I grew up and in the way I see men

Monate: Growing up as children, we all have dreams and that one thing we want to do when we grow up, so was modeling that dream for you?

Brilliant: Modeling was never my dream, to be honest; I was a nerd, a book addict, so my passion was to become a chartered accountant, so I did commercial subjects in high school, which was my dream

Along the way, with all the life experiences, so as it's said that as a child, you are raised by the community, and so I was raised by the community, they pressured me to consider modeling as a career, because I’m beautiful Look where I am now
