STRATFORD RFC UNDER 10’S

SEASON IN REVIEW

Broadstreet Tournament Plate Winners

Stratford RFC U 10’s had a fantastic start to their first tournament of the season by being crowned plate winners at the Broadstreet tournament on Sunday 6th October. It was a warm, sunny day that saw the ever growing and progressing U 10 squad back together, with some new players, for their first competitive match and tournament of the season. They proved they are building on their skill and successes from last season to once again be a fantastic and winning team. On Sunday they played an A and B team made up of 16 players of the 22 squad. They played some great first matches, were slightly rusty in dusting off the cobwebs in playing together for the new season in some of their middle games. However, they completely found their winning form and team coherence once again to finally come together and deservedly win the plate final. The A team went on to play and beat earlier rivals Barker butts and win the final comfortably with a score of 6-1. Tries came from Boazman, Lopez, Lewis, Dhillon and 2 fantastic tries from Forsythe. The plate final game showed a vast improvement In play with great handling skills, strong movement as well as some crunching, fearless tackles. Rawson, Mayers, Challis, Smith S, and Case showed quick hands, good positive aggression and a willingness to move the ball down the line. They are a brilliant team who already are starting to work well together and we look forward to a successful and enjoyable season helped positively and sensitively at all times by their dedicated coaches.

STRATFORD RFC UNDER 10’S POWER PAST BICESTER

On Sunday 8th December the Stratford RFC under 10’s welcomed Bicester to their Peacecroft ground for a home game. The under 10’s were encouraged more so by coming out proudly in their new team sponsored kit. Local leisure and kayaking company Galaxy Kayaks have very kindly sponsored the boys’ new kit and this was the first opportunity for them all to play in their new and team building matching Tops. The boys are developing into a coherent, skilful and successful team. They work hard and listen to their coaches advice and guidance each and every week and are now starting to reap the rewards as they progress into a strong and powerful team. They won their first match easily 6-3 with 3 fantastic tries from Hands, while Lewis, Clifton and Mayers all also bagged tries of their own. Lewis’ try was a great steal culminating in giving Stratford an encouraging, confident lead. Hands’ tries showed some great, nifty footwork and his ability to easily run the length of the pitch gave the boys a confident win. Mayers always consistently shows great all round tenacity, winning the ball on many occasions. Rawson and Hogan demonstrated excellent tackling from the outset, always pushing their attack back into defence. Challis turned the ball over well on many occasions gaining valuable yardage. Skryzpinkski and Dhillon tackled aggressively and successfully. The second game started off badly and at half time saw the Stratford boys losing 0-2. However, with some cracking tries in the second half from Lopez, Lewis, Clifton and Mayers, the boys took a second lead of the day when the final whistle blew with a great result of 4-3. An excellent layoff from Smith S saw a great try in the corner by Mayers. Case and Boazman supported well throughout the game. Smith S and Gittus ripped the ball on many occasions and made some good attacks at Bicester’s defence. Rintoul, Maybe and Cornall pushed hard and rucked over well at all times.

STRATFORD RFC UNDER 10’S KES TOURNAMENT WINNERS

On Sunday 9th February, Stratford RFC under 10’s were entered into the KES tournament. The tournament was put on by Shakespeare’s School and they hosted a well organised and evenly matched event for a wide variety of local clubs. The Peacecroft boys demonstrated fantastic play and were thrilled to be crowned well deserved overall joint cup winners. In the first game they played Kenilworth. The boys took a brilliant win of 7-0 with exciting tries from Hands (3), Lewis (2), Challis and Clifton. Case and Smith T showed great aggression and defended well. There were lots of excellent try saving tackles from Lester whilst Orton rucked over the ball with skill. The second game against Old Leamingtonian’s saw the only draw of the day during the pool matches, with a score of 2 all, both tries coming again from triumphant Lewis. Smith S and Cornall passed the ball well and hooked the ball with skill in the scrum. The third game of the pool saw another win of 4-0 against Old Sils B with tries from top notch Hands (2), Mayers and Lewis. The fourth and final game saw the jubilant Stratford boys go through to the final with another well deserved win of 5-1 against local rivals Shipston. Supreme tries were scored by Lewis (2), Hands, Hogan and Dhillon. The boys went confidently and fiercely into the final with passion, drive and aggression. They played a close and evenly matched game against Old Sils A team. The exciting and nail biting match saw a try scored for Old Sils first. Challis then equalised with a great try to put the Peacecroft boys firmly back in the game. Old Sils scored again but Lewis, who played amazingly well all day, scored the final equaliser in the last play of the game. Cornall, Smith S, Mayers and Smith T handled the ball well with very few handling errors. Hands and Hogan passed skilfully on the wing and put in some great runs down the line. Dhillon, Clifton and Lester tackled successfully with power and aggression. The boys were overjoyed to take a well deserved joint win and there were smiles all round as captain Challis proudly lifted the trophy for the elated boys, presented to him by KES headmaster Bennet Carr.

STRATFORD RFC UNDER 10’S UNBEATEN AT WARWICK TOURNAMENT

On a sunny, but cold Friday evening on March 21st, Stratford RFC under 10’s travelled away to Warwick School to play in their annual local clubs tournament. The boys were placed into a difficult group but they played some fantastic rugby, once again, and proved themselves, and their coaches proud, by showcasing outstanding skills and playing in the well talked about, best match of the day against Old Sils. Their first match saw a fantastic win against strong local side Claverdon. They all moved the ball well and were tough in defence taking a well deserved win of 2-0. Their handling of the ball in the second half won them the game. Lewis used the ball well and there was formidable, amazing tackling from Rawson, Forsythe and Lester. Challis was first at every breakdown and Mayers, right from the get go, put in some stellar tackles. Hands and Boazman made some fantastic runs down the outside line, ably supported and backed up by Clifton and Smith T. The second match saw an even tougher game against Old Sils. After taking a clear 2-0 lead in the first half, with great tries from Hands and Challis, they suffered some unfortunate injuries and ended up having to settle for a 2 all draw at full time. Smith S. and Hogan tried hard to support at all times. The third game saw another draw against Broadtstreet. The boys did not let the darkness hinder their play and enjoyed playing under the Warwick School floodlights. Gittus ran hard through the tough defence. The boys were happy with a 1 all draw.

Stratford RFC under 10’S festival winners

Stratford RFC have had an exceptional season and topped it off fantastically by comfortably winning their home tournament on Sunday 27 th April. Under the brilliant support, encouragement and advice of their dedicated coaches they have had a fabulous season, progressed really well in many areas and once again deservedly added to their silverware. They played a good range of teams and won every match comfortably. They played Bromyard first and won 3-1. Tries came from Lewis, Smith T and Boazman. They were well supported by Mayers, Cornall and Smith S. There was majestic footwork displayed from Forsythe and Rawson and some searing runs down the line from Clifton. Their second match was stopped at 8-0 as the Peacecroft boys smashed their rivals Barbarians. They went on to easily beat strong side Stourbridge 8-1 and Old Coventrians 4-1. In the penultimate game they faced some tough competition from Old Silhillians but still managed to pull off a successful win of 2-0. Their last game saw another success for the formidable boys of 6-0 against Kings Norton Rhinos. Gittus, Rintoul, Savill, Dhillon and Hogan all proved to be team players and contributed well at all times to their teams successes with accurate and skilful passing and a constant strong defence. The boys have all worked hard and made huge progress this season. They are playing way beyond their expected age and skill level and are reaping the rewards for both their, and their coaches, dedication and enthusiasm. We look forward to watching them continue to do well next season as they move into the under 11’s.
