To our Pitt students, corporate sponsors, and members of the business community, As chancellor of the University of Pittsburgh, I would like to welcome you to the University’s Fall 2015 Career Fair. We are pleased that more than 200 employers have come to Pitt to discuss career opportunities with our students. This is a remarkable university with an enviable record of accomplishments and success and the promise of even more notable attainments in the years ahead. Over the course of its more recent history, the University has made dramatic progress in terms of its stature and reputation as one of the nation’s leaders in higher education and cutting-edge research. Of course, a university is only as great as the people who constitute it, and Pitt’s students have contributed to the University’s progress in a number of ways—from their commitment to their own academic achievement to their contributions through numerous volunteer activities. Our students are the focal point for everything we do, not only because of our respect for what they have achieved inside and outside the classroom during their collegiate experience but also because of our belief in their potential as they prepare to begin their lives as young professionals in the real world. The University is fortunate to attract highly talented students who know that they need to perform at the highest levels if they are to achieve their full potential. Pitt undergraduate students have successfully competed against students from colleges and universities across the country and have been awarded Rhodes, Truman, Marshall, Udall, and Goldwater scholarships. Pitt also is among the nation’s leading producers of Fulbright, Boren, and Critical Language scholars as well as Whitaker International, National Science Foundation, and Humanity in Action fellows. But it is not just those students earning the highest forms of national recognition who are true achievers. Day after day, tens of thousands of Pitt students are more quietly building the educational foundation upon which they will pursue their dreams and go on to careers of impact. To the employers who are here today, thank you for coming to our campus to meet our students. We are glad you are here. Dear job seekers and employers: Welcome to the University of Pittsburgh Fall 2015 Career Fair at the Petersen Events Center. We are delighted that you are taking part in this annual event today that will connect more than 200 businesses and organizations with the many talented students from the University of Pittsburgh. It is exciting to bring recruiters representing such a variety of career opportunities in many different professions and geographic locations and from such a diverse range of industries to our campus today to meet with our extraordinary students. We are very proud of our students because we strongly believe that they possess many attributes that will make them exceptional employees. First and foremost, our students have earned a degree from a world-class university that continues to grow in stature as one of the top research universities in the country and one of the top public universities in the world. Pitt students obtain significant experiences outside the classroom, with more than three-fourths of our graduating seniors participating in a practicum, an internship, a co-op, clinical work, and/or a research project. University of Pittsburgh students are trained to become proficient communicators and bring a global perspective to the marketplace as well as a deep understanding of and respect for diversity of ideas, cultures, and people.
