Michigan State Firemen’s Association

The Michigan State Firemen’s Association (MSFA) was founded a firefighter in the call of duty. Working in conjunction with the in 1875 as a nonprofit organization as a way for firefighters to share experiences, learn from each other, and to socialize. The MSFA is proud to represent the Michigan fire service and be a provider to the needs of firefighters by being a distributor of fire service training manuals and books, providing training opportunities with our Spring Fire School, Fall Fire School and National Fire Academy “Michigan Weekend” in Emmitsburg, Maryland. In addition to being a means of education/training of firefighters, MSFA supports fire departments across the state. This is especially important when a department loses

National Fallen Firefighters

Foundation in Washington, DC, MSFA provides resources to assist the families of fallen firefighters in rebuilding their lives and their departments, as well as working with the Fire Service community to reduce firefighter injury and deaths. The United States Congress created the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation in 1992. The Michigan State Firemen’s Association also offers line of duty death services through their L.A.S.T. Team and funeral kits. Executive board members and past presidents also serve as advocates across the nation. For additional information on the MSFA visit msfassoc.org.

Festival to feature new training classes

New to this year’s Firemen’s Memorial Festival are classes to help visiting firefighters obtain additional state certifications. Classes include: • Michigan Propane Gas is holding live fire propane training on Friday, Sept. 17. • 2 The Rescue is holding Career Survival camp on Friday, Sept. 17. • State fire marshal is hosting a class on how to “read” smoke and residential tactics on Sept. 18 at 1 p.m. Other classes are TBA.
