Don’t forget the reindeer this Christmas Eve

Every Christmas Eve, my kids and I look towards the sky in hopes of catch ing a glimpse of Rudolph leading Santa’s sleigh.

To make sure the highly important reindeer are not forgotten on this special night, we make a magical mixture of reindeer food with ingredients already in the pantry.

INGREDIENTS:

-Raw uncooked oats (can also use popcorn)

-Sugar cookie sprinkles or glitter

-Plastic sandwich or snack baggie

-Ribbon in festive holiday colors

DIRECTIONS

-Pour 3-4 tablespoons of oats into each plastic bag.

-Add a tablespoon or two of sprin kles. Iridescent sprinkles or red and green sprinkles are good choices; but use

what you have on hand. (You can even use the fine sanding sugar used for sand tarts. Just beware: If you mix red and green sugar, the resulting color will be a less festive shade of brown.)

-Close the baggie with a piece of rib bon and shake, shake, shake!

-If using a zipper top bag, punch a small hole in the cor ner and thread a piece of ribbon through the hole.

After you put out the milk and cookies for Santa, head out side to sprinkle this magic reindeer food on the snow or your lawn and be sure to say this poem.

Sprinkle this reindeer food outside tonight

The moonlight will make it sparkle bright

As the reindeer fly and roam

This will guide them to your home

So simple, yet so sweet. Christmas isn’t Christmas at our house without a trail of reindeer food down our drive.
