Uponor radiant system: comfort and energy efficiency The moderate temperature of the water (18-30°C ) and the large radiant surfaces, ensuring maximum comfort and using minimal energy, makes the Uponor radiant heating and cooling system particularly suitable for increasing the efficiency of the heat source, such as a condensing boiler or heat pump, whilst enabling the use of renewable energy and sources of free cooling. Uponor radiant heating and cooling ensures a superior indoor environment. The embedded systems provide a perfect thermal environment and can be individually controlled in each room and each apartment. With minimum air circulation, draught and dust problems are eliminated. In addition, Uponor radiant heating and cooling operates noiselessly and without step noise nuisance. The absence of radiators, fan coils or other cumbersome devices means complete freedom in terms of layout and furnishing and allows all available space to be utilised to its full potential. Cost savings can be realised all the way from the construction phase and throughout the building’s life. Uponor radiant and cooling systems includes a full range of supply temperature controls, and manifolds that allow individual apartment management according to the end user's needs, even with a centralised energy source. Room temperature can be optimised and controlled using the unique features of Dynamic Energy Management controls, that deliver stable room temperatures while reducing energy consumption by as much as 8% compared to standard on-off controls3).

This means that renewable energy available from the ground, water, sun, and air can be integrated and utilised with ease. Reliable plumbing systems Just as the human body is sustained by the vertebral column, the plumbing system inside a building is the carrier for each lavatory and central heating element. With the innovative and unique Uponor Riser, the issue of transporting water throughout the building is solved. The Uponor Riser reduces both planning and construction work, because there are fewer building components to store, process and plan for and it is quicker and easier than traditional distribution techniques thanks to its modular approach. Once the water is delivered into the building, internal distribution becomes the critical factor: Uponor has the ability to offer on-wall and in-wall installation. On-wall installation is made with the most reliable technique on the market, with durable joints made in just seconds: our simple but ingenious Uponor Quick & Easy connection produces pressure-sealed, robust and long-lasting joints. Our innovation makes use of the shrinking back effect, which only works for cross-linked PE-Xa pipes produced by Uponor.

An optimal indoor environment requires careful design of the thermal environment, air quality, acoustic conditions and lighting. These factors are closely linked and optimal comfort for the end user requires an integrated design of the building envelope and its technical systems. In addition, the end user requires installations that are clean, safe and easy to operate. The aim of heating and cooling systems is to provide a healthy and comfortable thermal environment with low energy consumption. Uponor radiant systems are designed to provide optimal room temperature distribution, which ensures perfect thermal comfort throughout the year. Radiant systems provide superior thermal comfort because the energy exchange takes place as radiation between large surfaces in the room and not by convection with moving air. Radiant heat exchange results in uniform temperatures within all room surfaces (floor, walls and ceiling) in such way that there is no radiation asymmetry. This ensures a perfect thermal balance between the human body and its surroundings. The end user will have the pleasure of a comfortable heated floor in the winter, and the option of comfort cooling in the hot summer months. Good indoor air quality needs to be guaranteed by natural or mechanical ventilation, but with a radiant system, thermal discomfort such as cold draughts and radiant asymmetry in a room can be eliminated.

Good acoustic conditions are guaranteed by Uponor’s innovative thermal and acoustic insulation that minimses the transmission of sound in addition to preventing heat loss. This prevents unwanted step noise between apartments. Individual room controls ensures that inhabitants in individual apartments can independently manage their heating and cooling system so that the right temperature and comfort can be achieved according to their needs.
