Better Places for People is a global campaign that aims to create a world in which buildings support healthier and happier lives for those who occupy them. Initiated by the World Green Building Council in May 2015 and supported by

nine

campaign

corporate

sponsors

will

momentum

gain

including through

Uponor, World

the

Green

Building Week (21-27 September 2015). The steering committee

and

different

working

groups

have

been

initiated and started working on their assigned tasks. On 23 and 24 September a webinar will inform about core topics, objectives, and timings. The Better Places for People (www.betterplacesforpeople.org) campaign will raise awareness of how buildings impact upon health and wellbeing, and encourage those who design, build, own, occupy, operate or sell them, to shape buildings for the benefit of people. Building upon earlier evidence generated by the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) linking office design with health and wellbeing outcomes for employees, the campaign

will focus on a range of building types including retail buildings, offices and residential buildings. The steering committee and the different working groups have become operational through the last few months and are now working to define metrics for measuring the impact of buildings on residents, employees or customers. In a second step the groups will develop tools and resources to help those metrics to be applied. In addition to the corporate sponsorship, Uponor representatives are contributing in these working groups together with other experts and specialists. Uponor and Better Places for People – a perfect fit “At Uponor, our vision is to provide solutions enriching people’s way of life,” explains Ilari Aho, Vice President New Business Development and Corporate Social Responsibility at Uponor, and member of the campaign’s steering committee. “The systems and solutions that we offer for drinking water delivery, radiant heating and cooling, and infrastructure are essential building blocks for healthy and sustainable buildings. This makes Uponor a perfect fit for the Better Places for People campaign. We are proud to be one of the nine main sponsors and to support the World Green Building Council in this endeavour.” Health and sustainability are part of Uponor’s DNA: State of the art drinking water delivery systems allow for hygienic installation providing residents, employees and customers with clean and healthy water. Radiant heating and cooling systems generate a favourable indoor climate while operating on a relatively low energy level. This easily allows the use of regenerative energy

sources such as heat pumps, reducing the CO 2 footprint of a building. In infrastructure, Uponor offers efficient and sustainable solutions e.g. for storm or waste water management as well as other infrastructure demands. In summary, Uponor provides a broad range of solutions needed for building better places for people. Webinar during World Green Building Week To inform about the Better Places for People campaign, the WorldGBC will conduct a webinar in which national Green Building Councils, their members and other interested audiences are invited to participate. The webinar will be held twice during World Green Building Week (21-27 September 2015) and will be made available on the campaign’s website afterwards. It provides the opportunity to gain and share insights from the working groups. The session will focus on the tenant drivers in different markets and

how

various

stakeholders

within

an

organisation

can

overcome barriers and leverage opportunities to improving workplace outcomes. In addition, it will cover early findings of the retail task group, including industry metrics and drivers. To register for the webinar, please visit the events section on the campaign website. Interaction through campaign website and social media The campaign website www.betterplacesforpeople.org is the preferred platform for interaction and information regarding Better Places for People. In a special blog, the WorldGBC will share expert views and analysis from industry professionals working on the topic of healthy buildings. The blog will be

launched in World Green Building Week with a number of pieces on the work of the individual building sector types. The website will also feature posts from the campaign’s corporate sponsors and national Green Building Councils with their thoughts and activities relating to healthy buildings. Beyond the website, the campaign will be highlighted through the social media channels of the WorldGBC, the national Green Building Councils and the corporate sponsors.
