Based on the Star Wars movie, SWTOR is all about battle stations, starships, lighsabers, blasters and the never-ending feud between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire. So far, there are a total of eight known classes. Four of which pertains to the Galactic Republic and the other four to the Sith Empire. The SWTOR Republic classes are the Smuggler, Trooper, Jedi Knight and the Jedi Consular class. As for the Sith Empire, the four classes are the Bounty Hunter, Imperial Agent, Sith Warrior and Sith Inquisitor. Each of the classes are further specialized to round about two advanced classes each. The weapons used by all the classes are not too different from each other. In other words, they either carry differentiating versions of a blaster or a lightsaber. The classes of the two allegiance engage in battle against other smaller alliances and of-course against each other throughout the game. The Republic's people are protected by the Jedi Order, composed mainly of the Jedi Knights and Jedi Consulars. The Sith Empire is lead and driven forward by the Sith Lords, basically the Sith Inquisitors and their Sith Warriors. In combination, the classes offer gamers with a healer, also otherwise known as a support class, a tank, a melee-DPS and a ranged-DPS character. With lots of races to choose from, gamers can create unique characters from the race to class combinations that are available. Besides tending to their main characters, SWTOR is designed with crews and a companion. This means, one gamers will also have a whole set of crew to manage, including the allocation of crew skills. Maneuvering starships and checking in on companions are among the other activities that the gamer will need to allocate playtime for. Each of the SWTOR class are designed by the game developers to be able to both effectively solo and play in groups. Thus, a Jedi Consular character, which is a support class, is at no disadvantage in comparison to the Sith Warrior, a damage-dealing class. The classes are designed to be well-balanced against each other. For instance, in compensation for their light clothing, the Consular has powerful healing abilities which is not available to the Warrior class. Nevertheless, due to their differences in various class facets, leveling different classes will require the use of different strategies, tactics and skill rotations. The available skills will obviously be very different for each of the classes to compliment each other.
