Growing organic food in your own home garden has a ton of benefits. One of the first benefits is a positive impact on your family's overall health. It has been proven that the longer vegetables sit around without being consumed, the more vitamins and nutrients they will loose even though they still look good. When you grow your own organic food at home, you can be sure that the food you produce is fresh, and has not sat around in a stock room or supermarket shelf for several days or longer. With a home garden, you can take produce from the vine and have it on the table within an hour. Another benefit is a financial savings. There is a little expense with starting a garden at home, but most of it is in the first year. If you purchase heirloom seeds, you can harvest the seeds from the vegetables that you grow and pick, enabling you to plant them the next year instead of buying more seeds. Even with the purchase of the seeds and other things needed for the garden, you still come out better than if you bought produce from a store, or an even more expensive farmers market. Another benefit is that you always have the types of vegetables you grow available, even when there is a shortage in your area. My area went through a sweet potato shortage a couple of years ago, the supermarket had none, and neither did the farmers market. I did have some and they were fresh.
