With sensible, yet elegant components, Eileen’s designs are the epitome of contemporary New England living. She believes that every home can be both chic, clean, and livable at once. Describing her designs as “tradition-inspired”, many rooms include vintage or antique accents that appropriately play off the colors and enhance the structure of the room. As crisp as the design may be, Eileen’s goal is for her clients to want to spend time living in the finished rooms. This desire rules out the rigid, harsh furniture traditionally found in classic homes and replaces it with warm, neutral tones and functional furniture. Eileen’s designs use a minimalistic approach, with splashes of color to draw attention to other hand selected details. Natural light is used as the main accent, and many designs focus around a central common area with large windows. Eileen’s rooms appear open, despite possible floor plan limitations, and often include modern finishes to add a present-day touch. With themes that range from classic to contemporary, Eileen’s distinctive style makes a stunning impact on every room it touches. With offices in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts, Eileen Marcuvitz’s work can be seen across the northeast. An artisan uses utensils to create the Mia chandelier—but, spoons only. The base of the light features spoons suspended at the handle; a row of clear crystals serve as the divider between the next layer of spoons but missing handles. In all, three rows of teaspoons, some with handles, some not, make up the Alice Teacup Chandelier. “It’s very Alice in Wonderlandish,” says Babcock, “with a combination of teaspoons and teacups.” Working from the bottom of the light fixture up, there is a single row of teaspoons suspended from the handles, then a second row hanging in the same manner, but with the handles hidden behind by white porcelain teacup dangling by the handle. specifically designed Villa Pacifica to represent their vision of a “classic” home. With clean lines, simple colors and bold accents, Villa Pacifica is a universal and timeless vision of home. It incorporates many aspects of classic Greek architecture—high, domed ceilings, paned windows, and rustic elements like exposed beams. The estate includes an enclosed courtyard, multiple outdoor sitting rooms, and a breathtaking view of the coastline. Inside, spacious bedrooms and open common areas lend to socialization and a warm, family atmosphere. Based out of Santa Barbara, California, Appleton & Associates are renowned for their open, rustic floor plans. Their goal is to “…[draw] upon the time-honored traditions of vernacular architecture, subtly reinterpreting them to evoke a presence of the past.”1 The company’s owner, Mark Appleton has received

Mosaic factory | By Kay Harwell Fernandez

The history of mosaics dates back thousands of years including the glory days of the Roman and Byzantine Empires. Assembling small pieces of colored or mirror glass, marble, shells, stone and other materials to create decorative patterns remains an intricate process even in the 21st century.

B

ased in Ravenna, Italy, SICIS, The Art Mosaic Factory takes creativity to new heights with innovative, whimsical and experimental mosaics. Established in 1987, the company designs unique, modern and

aesthetically appealing works of art in coverings, furniture, icons, sculptures, cushions, lamps, cushions and other accessories. Artistic collections include Murano Smalto, Glass3, Metallismo, Water Glass, Basic, NeoGlass, Colibri, Flower Power, Bathtub & More, Pin Up, Rug, Cosmati, OrienTale, Portrait and Mediterranea. Colibri, for example, sparkles with precious metals in 24-karat gold, silver and platinum. Flower Power bursts forth with gigantic flower mosaics that afford a dramatic, even “groovy” look in black and white, or vivid red, yellow, blue, green and purple. These flowery pieces may be ideally positioned in the foyer, above a fireplace, behind a sofa or even in the bathroom. The Mediterranea collection looks stunning in an upscale swimming pool setting. Playful Glass3 in sea blue or lawn green enhances any shower or bath area. Murano Smalto perks up walls, pools and showers with artfully done tiny pieces of mosaic glass. Comprised of distinctive mosaics in the form of a “floor throw rug,” SICIS’s Rug collection bears recognizable names such as Cezanne, Degas and Renoir. NeoGlass shows flashes of inspiration as room dividers and floors. The Basic group is far from basic. While the designs may look simply, they are eye-catching additions to any terrace, entryway, living room or den. For those who want to immortalize the famous, infamous, family members or just yourself, choose an oversized “Portrait” in mosaics. Undoubtedly conversation pieces, the sculptures are life-size or larger than life mannequins in head to toe mosaics in striking poses. 2012

TRENDS As we head into the last quarter of 2011, fashionistas everywhere are making their predictions as to which of this year’s trends will make their way into the 2012 fashion lineups about to take the stage. Autumn and fall fashions are adopting the seventies fashion flair that has long been pushed to the back of the closet. The once universal bell bottom pant will reappear in its modified form—wide and flare leg pants. Pleats and plunging necklines have also made their way into the scene, through designers such as Gucci, J Mendel, and Stella McCartney. Oriental fashions are poised to make the crossover into the 2012 fashion trends with simple, elegantly flowing kimonos and silk sashes from designer Elle Sweden. The subtle inspirational and exotic look will have heads turning and confidence cascading into the new year. On the controversial side of the ticket, fur will begin to work its way in towards the end of 2011 and into the beginning of the 2012 fashion season as designers look to rekindle the populace’s love affair with what is now considered taboo. Even faux fur draws fire

from critics but there’s no denying the appeal that most fur clothing has-- especially when paired with some of the other reigning fashions trends of the day. Furs will pair beautifully with the 70’s vintage looks that are reappearing. This trend is not limited to coats: both this year and next, expect to see of fur accessories, trim, sleeves, and their colored counterparts. Men can also expect to see fur in their futures, as introduced through the styles of Qasimi Homme and Balmain seen earlier this season. Men’s fur will not reach quite the extent of full-length coats, but aviator style fur trimmed jackets and the like are a definite possibility in 2012. In 2012, men can look forward to a more relaxed, loose fit style as opposed to the fitted clothing cuts that have been so recently popular. Slim and skinny aren’t out, but relaxed fits will play a bigger role in the men’s trends next year: seamless shoulders and deep shoulders, loose pants, pleated pants, and loose cut jackets will all be on the menu for the 2012 fashion shopping season. 

ntroducing the year’s most exciting makeup launch exclusively for Rimmel: Kate Moss, for the first time, developed her very own lipstick called “The Kate Moss Lasting Finish

Lipstick Collection” Kate Moss and Rimmel have long been beauty’s most iconic partnership. Together, the supermodel and the edgy London makeup brand have completely redefined what it means to be hip and cool. Kate’s love of Rimmel Lasting Finish lipstick goes way back. She once admitted that the famous Heather Shimmer shade was the first lipstick she ever bought. When talking about her new lipstick collection Kate was quoted saying, “My inspiration for this range was really to create a range of easy to wear, classic shades that I have always worn and loved. From bright reds, to soft pinks and nudes, there is a shade for everyone and any occasion. It was also really important for me that they were also comfortable to wear. Whatever your outfit there is sure to be a shade to match!” For this new Kate Moss Lasting Finish Lipstick collection, Kate worked closely with Rimmel to design a very chic matte black pack that perfectly represents her glamorous rock’n’roll style. Kate’s iconic pack is truly personalized with her signature in an eye catching stand out red giving it true elegance with an edge! For the collection, the world famous model had a very clear point of view. Putting all her experience on the runway, in the studio and on the red carpet into her collaboration with Rimmel, she created 15 stunning shades exclusively for the Kate Moss Lasting Finish Lipstick collection. All the shades are intense and creamy, with one notable exception: number 15, a super-pearly mauve-tinged grey, which can be worn on its own as a fashion statement or over another shade to give it a new dimension. The rest of the Rimmel Winter 2011 Collection takes inspiration from Kate’s hip London style for three cutting-edge products: Union Jack Eyeshadow, Extra Wow Lash Mascara and Instant Art Press On Colour, the hot new trend for nails.

LUXURY

SUBMARINES

Deep Flight Challenger

raveling below sea has always being a luxury for the elite who are on the constant lookout for travelling to exotic destinations to get away from it all. Nowadays, the most popular luxury submarines

have given us an insight into the most popular designs in modern times. Now the concept has gone commercial albeit with the extra price tag, to bring this exotic touring method to the other consumers, by hiring these luxury submarines for their odyssey under the sea. The following three luxury submarines come to mind, which provide a glimpse into some of the services they provide, which allows you explore the deepest waters under the sea. Deep Flight Challenger Submarine - This submarine was built as an experimental model created by Steve Fossett. Unfortunately, he was not able to go on the adventure trip due to his untimely death. He was set to attempt the world record for the deepest solo dive at 37,000 feet below sea level. This watercraft has amenities to support 24 hours of life without contact with external source of air and has an endurance to go to an ocean’s full depth and back on surface within 5 hours, going up or down at a rate of 350 feet per minute at a 45 degree angle. Triton 36000 Submarine - This submarine had to be the best in both

concept and design. James Cameron’s intentions were to commercially create Triton 36000 for exploring waters, especially near New Zealand. This was his childhood dream. The submarine is known to have capabilities to go at depths of more than 300 meters. James Cameron has already set aside $8 million for using for this particular trip to the Kermadec Tonga Rench (could this be Trench???) located north of New Zealand. Virgin Oceanic Flying Club - As the name suggests,

Virgin Oceanic

Virgin Atlantic submarine created by Sir Richard Branson, who is known for his extravagant style, and the demand for exploring opportunities never done so by man before. Branson is already on verge of making space tourism a reality, and now it’s exploring the deepest waters, including the deepest portion of the Marina Trench, which goes approximately 11 kilometers straight down. For this reason, the major part of this airline resembling submarine will have carbon fiber and platinum to create the crust which will bear the highest possible atmospheric pressures known. Other locations targeted by Sir Branson include the Puerto Rico Trench, Diamantina Trench, South Sandwich trench and the Molloy Deep, with the Puerto Rico Trench to be piloted himself. With the earth and the moon being covered by us, the sea remains an unknown venture only revealing what we already know. But it won’t stop there. With the creation of these magnificent entrepreneurs, these exotic vehicles will take us to the unknown, eventually becoming a tourist tool to explore exotic places undersea, but does it ends there? What will the future hold for us? We can only guess that there will be a lot more. After all our nature is to explore the unreachable and make it ours, so we will stay put and look forward to a world of sublime surprises. Until then, Bon Voyage!

A Distinguished Grand Marnier For The Most Discriminating Connoisseurs | By Francis McCarthy

oday, Grand Marnier has announced Grand Marnier Quintessence, their first new expression of Grand Marnier since the release of Cent-Cinquantenaire to

mark their 150th anniversary in 1977. Quintessence is built on a blend of more than twenty Co-

gnacs, all from Grand Champagne, the most prestigious cru zone in the Cognac region. The age of these cognacs is from twenty five to one hundred years old. Grand Marnier has used the same bitter oranges selected for all of the brand’s marques, however, to produce Quintessence, a unique Marnier recipe, called “double parfum,” has been implemented. This perfume is very delicate, subtle, fresh and richer than the traditional perfume. Grand Marnier was founded in 1880 by Louis-Alexandre Marnier-Lapostolle and produces the world’s most known orange liqueur; a liqueur that marries Cognac with oranges from the West Indies. Edward VII, the future King of England, and César Ritz were among the first converts in the days before Grand Marnier gained international recognition. Quintessence is a limited expression selling for $700 a bottle created to please the most discriminating palates. 
