SARA’S GARDEN
It’s Just Beginning... sses One of the most exciting times of the year at the nursery for us is happening right now: the beginning of our growing season when the first new plants/ seeds/divisions begin to arrive. The excitement and anticipation only build from here as the growing process commences, finally culminating with the onset of spring! The new plants for 2013 cover all categories, from annuals to shrubs and everything in between. There are lots of veggies, including grafted tomatoes. Several new hybrids of clematis, more coneflowers (if that is possible), perennial dianthus are just oozing ‘new’, and if you’re thinking fruiting shrubs this is the year to jump in. This is building up to be the most new varieties we’ve ever produced in a single season—we are just busting at the seams, literally! Great options for every garden need & desire. Stone Wall Follies: Our dry-laid stone wall class for 2013 is going to be our biggest yet. Once again we are privileged to have John Shaw-Rimmington and Norman Haddow instructing; Google these guys and check out John’s blog and his vision for the next phase of our castle in the garden. This 10 student limited course held in October always sells out; early reservations are recommended. For details & reservations for the Stone Wall Follies, or any other garden related topic, call 585-637-4745 and ask for Kathy, or email kkepler@rochester.rr.com.
35+ year Mission! It is our greatest desire to provide our customers with top quality, well-grown plant material at a fair and honest price. We will strive to provide an unmatched selection of old favorites and underused, hard-to-find items, along with the newest varieties on the market. We will eagerly share our horticultural knowledge gained from years of education and experience. Lastly, we offer all this in a spirit of fun and lightheartedness.

Ear to the ground A New Flower Show for Rochester A group of local landscapers has banded together to produce a new show this spring that they hope will fill the void left by GardenScape, which is being postponed for one year. The Garden Artisans of Rochester Show will be held March 14-17 at Southtown Plaza in Henrietta. For more information, visit gardenartisansrochester.com.
England, Philadelphia Reminders While you’re thinking about garden shows, don’t forget there are opportunities to see some others farther afield. The UGJ is hosting a trip to the Chelsea Flower Show and gardens and around in May, and Michael Warren Thomas’s fantastically popular trips to the Philadelphia Flower Show are scheduled for early March. For information on the England trip: upstategardenersjournal.com or 585/538-4980. For more on Philly: 585-703-9237 or visit savorlife.com.
New Website for the UGJ We’ve been hard at work designing an all-new website to give you more regional gardening information than you can possibly handle! Please become a fan on facebook and watch our page for an announcement, or check in at upstategardenersjournal.com.

MAXSEA combines the best of nature and technology. We blend the finest natural seaweed with important secondaries, micronutrients and the purest plant foods available.
MAXSEA's natural brown granules turn dark seaweed green and have the fresh, clean aroma of the sea... a pleasure to use and completely safe for the environment.
The resulting complexes are remarkably effective, easy-to-use concentrates that dissolve instantly and completely in water... for fast acting, immediate results. In solution,
Professional growers and home gardeners alike tell us our MAXSEA plant foods are the finest available anywhere. We're very proud of that.
