FINDING RIPTIDE Hey, everyone! Don’t you love those moments where you realize you’re right where you’re supposed to be … and you’re full, too? I had one of those moments this week! Let me explain. See, on Thursday I was part of the voting audience at the Bruff’s Kitchen Legends Cook-Off. Chef Travis won the contest by only 3 votes for his incredible dish, Blackened Chicken with local Kale & Pecan Sauté. Afterward, I attended the prestigious Bruff’s Kitchen recognition ceremony. Seeing all my favorite chefs receive their special jackets was so inspiring, and it made me sure that I had done the right thing when I decided to major in delicious food. After all, food is what brings us together, makes our days joyful, and creates everlasting memories! One day, I want to make Bruff’s Kitchen history, too, and I’ll wear a snazzy chef’s jacket just like theirs. Oh, but in my excitement about the conclusion of Bruff’s Kitchen, I almost forgot to tell you about my great surprise on Tuesday! I arrived at Bruff for breakfast only to discover the delicious aroma of Breakfast Tostadas. They were hosting a Latin American theme day, with specialty cuisine at every meal made from Mrs. Maria Osoro’s family recipes. I salsa’d on back at lunchtime for Shrimp Ceviche – how can a bird resist? – and then when the corn tortillas topped with guacamole, hot dog, and homemade tomato sauce were whipped up for dinner, I decided to round out the day with that tasty recipe, too. Yes, I went back for seconds! If you’re wondering how I maintain my manly physique with so many great meals all around me, I’ll tell you my secret: It’s a pelican thing.

As we power through the end of the semester, I’ll still be making time to enjoy my extracurricular food studies. On Tuesday, April 29th, the last day of classes, I’ll be lunching at the last Gourmet Grill of the spring semester. Come meet me on the Gibson Quad between 11 A.M. and 2 P.M. for a tasty study break. Then, Wednesday night at midnight, I’ll be back in Bruff for the semester’s Cram Jam. This is the biggest and best party of every semester, and I’ve been working on my Thriller moves in case of flash mob, because hey: The theme this year is Awesome 80’s, and a pelican is always prepared! I’m so excited … you can’t be an official Tulanian until you’ve been to at least one Cram Jam! However you prep for finals, make sure you’re getting your fill of tasty food to fuel your brain. Fish is brain food, you know! Love, Riptide
