FINDING RIPTIDE Hey, everyone, Last Tuesday, I had one of my biggest tests as a delicious food major – eating oysters with both wings at once so that I had a mouthful of tasty shellfish at all times! Unlimited Oysters at Bruff lived up to its name with all the delicious seafood that even I could ask for. I was so full after my oyster dinner that I practically had to roll home to bed.

Gouda Grilled Cheese. Tuesday will have to be grilled cheese for breakfast, though, because I don’t wanna miss my favorite themed lunch: Artisan Lunch Day at Bruff! Piles of crusty bakery bread and mounds of cheese, cheese, and more cheese mean dozens of ways to enjoy the basic bread-andcheese combo between 11:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M.

But I made sure that I was out of bed early on Friday morning, because I wanted to be first in line to get some local and delicious Louisiana Strawberries for my breakfast. While I was looking at all the fresh produce at the Farmer’s Market, I ran into Chef Travis Johnson, the District Executive Chef of Uptown Campus Dining. He showed me the awesome variety of fruits that were ripe and ready for eating at the market.

Thursday night I’ll be eating free – the cooking demonstration menu at the Coca-Cola Sustainability Speaker Series includes one of my favorite foods, Gulf Fish Tacos with Corn Relish. The free food is my favorite part, but I’m also looking forward to listening to the panel discussion on “Growing, Preparing, and Packaging Food Sustainably.” I love the idea that even while we’re enjoying delicious eats here at Tulane, we’re helping to make a world where there’s enough fresh, tasty food for everyone.

I spent my lunch on Friday mixing two of my favorite things – good food and good works – at the NOLA Loves the Philippines all-you-can-eat lunch fundraiser! I joined my friends at the event to sample cultural foods and provide for struggling families affected by the recent typhoon in the Philippines. What a great day it was – we helped raise $834 and a donation of a vintage WWII Philippines taxi that will go towards new fishing equipment and other needs, just by enjoying some tasty food with our NOLA community! Wow!

On that note, everybody make sure that you get your dose of good food this week. We’ll use all that cheese and a few fish tacos to fuel a healthy last few weeks of the semester – that’s what food is for! Love, Riptide

This week, though, every day is cheese day! I’ll be winging my way over to the Bruff Commons Dining Room each day of the week, because they’ve got a different gourmet grilled cheese planned for serving all day, every day, Monday to Friday. I’m still in a fruit mood after the Farmer’s Market, so I’m especially looking forward to Thursday’s special sandwich, an Apple, Bacon, and Smoked
