FINDING RIPTIDE Hi, there!

pepper sauce? I hope I’ll get to try them all!

I’ve eaten well over the past week! On Tuesday, I had a delicious stick-to-your-ribs mini meat lasagna made by Chef Diane High – it was her Bruff’s Kitchen dish, and it was incredible! I’ll tell you a secret: it was even better than my mom’s. But if you see her next week when my parents visit for homecoming, make sure you don’t tell her I said so. I’m counting on you.

The Tabasco event goes from 11 to 2. It’s an extra door price of $5 to get into Bruff on Tabasco Day, but it’ll be well worth it for the food alone – and since the proceeds benefit Second Harvest, a local charity battling hunger, it’ll be even better.

The next day I’d gone for a fly around campus and I spied something totally different to try. Wellness Wednesday was happening in Pocket Park, and Chef Travis was there with about 20 different kinds of apples to share. I’ve always liked apples, but I never knew there were so many kinds! I sampled everything, of course – you know I would never neglect to report on tasty happenings! – and I really liked the Grapple, which is an amazing grape and apple hybrid. It might compete with lady apples as my new favorite! Wednesday’s dinner was a Diwali feast at Café Spice with celebrity chef Hari Nayak! I really liked the Indian music they played to celebrate the holiday – it definitely got me shaking my tail feathers! After all, that’s what Diwali is all about: feasting and celebrating because the light will come back after winter. (And it didn’t hurt that a certain lady friend was there to witness my awesome moves.) I really liked the rose lassi – a tasty traditional yogurt drink – but obviously, my favorite was the fish tandoori! The cumin and green pea pilaf smelled incredible, too. This Wednesday, November 5th, I’m looking forward to Tabasco Day at Bruff! I love trying new kinds of spice, and every station at Bruff Commons will be serving a dish infused with Tabasco sauce. Did you know there are seven different flavors of Tabasco

Speaking of charity, I’m making it a point to gear up for fall giving this week. Fall weather just makes me feel philanthropic! Since Dining Services and Athletics at Tulane are partnering up for lots of events in November to support everyone getting delicious food, it’s going to be really easy for me to help the hungry this year – as you can imagine, that’s a cause close to my feathery heart! And on Friday, I’ll be visiting the Farmer’s Market on the corner of Freret and McAlister Drive! It’s from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M., and I plan to be there taking notes about the fresh produce. Like I said, Mom and Dad are coming to visit me for homecoming, and I’ve got to show them that I’m taking my study of delicious food seriously! Hope to see you around! Love, Riptide
