Ironsides Waffles, colloquially known as the “Waffle Truck” just celebrated its one-year birthday with balloons, general joy, and a new sandwich made by sophomore Avery Werther. A contest featured Tulane students who were challenged to create a new recipe for Ironsides. While there were many entries, when it came down to the final two, Werther won. Werther says, “I came up with the recipe because I’ve always loved Monte Cristo sandwiches, and ever since Ironsides debuted last year, I thought it would be cool to see them put their waffle-y spin on it.”

The Monte Cristo is a fried ham and cheese sandwich, occasionally served with powdered sugar and preserves. This version features a local Louisiana jam (that you can also find on other waffles at Ironsides!) NOLA Eater calls Ironsides one of the nine hottest food trucks. Not feeling it? Try any of the other waffles with fresh, local ingredients.
Little known fact: bacon belongs on your waffle.

JC White, a senior, put it best. “In the wise words of Leslie Knope, ‘We need to remember what’s important in life: friends, waffles, work. Or waffles, friends, work. Doesn’t matter, but work is third.’”
Sweet or savory, there really is something for everyone. The “Sidekick” has fried chicken, coleslaw, and maple syrup for the update on the classic chicken and waffle. Throw it back to childhood with the “Sticky Situation,” a PB&J.
JC channeling Leslie.
Junior Emily Nappi says that she loves the convenience, the variety, and, well, waffles in general.
