FINDING RIPTIDE Hey, folks! I am a super-healthy pelican this week! I learned some nutrition tips when Sarah Welsh visited us last week – she’s a dietitian – and I spent the weekend doing some cooking. I love putting together a meal so it’s balanced. I can really use my study of delicious food for something creative! So after all that, I’m supercharged for Halloween festivities and I’m going to make sure I convert sugar to energy efficiently. There’s more to celebrate than Halloween, though. Chef Hari Nayak, the executive chef behind Café Spice, will be at Bruff on Wednesday night, October 29th to celebrate Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights. It happens every autumn, and it’s a huge celebration of light triumphing over darkness. Chef Hari will be making a plethora of specialty Indian dishes. I can’t wait to try it! You know, I tell you how much I’m looking forward to Bruff’s Kitchen every time it happens, but this week’s planned dish has a special place in my heart. Chef Diane High is making a meat lasagna this Thursday, October 28th, and lasagna holds so many memories for me! My mom and I used to make it together when all the nestmates came over for a family dinner. I’m excited to taste Chef Diane’s version! And I’ll need the energy I get from a delicious lasagna meal, because Friday is Halloween! If you’re new to New Orleans, you haven’t truly experienced the holiday – there’s nothing like the way we celebrate it here, with lots of spooky activities and celebration!
And speaking of spooky, I can’t wait to watch the Green Wave scare the Cincinnati Bearcats on Tulane’s home turf! We’ve won our last two home football games, and I’m over the moon at having a chance to watch Coach Curtis Johnson strive for a winning streak of three on Halloween night. I have friends visiting for Halloween, and I’m going to show them a great time by pointing out all the things that make Tulane the best place to experience a college football game. No other team has my current favorite players, Lorenzo Doss (#6) and Sherman Badie (#3). Besides, how many schools tailgate with their very own food truck? Not that many, I can tell you that! But Mr. Ironsides is backing up the Green Wave again, and I know that’s sure to impress my out-of-town guests – just like our amazing football team! #LetsMakeWaves! Love, Riptide
