FINDING RIPTIDE Hi, y’all! You know, I knew I made the right choice by picking Tulane for my study of delicious food. Whenever I get my feathers ruffled, there’s tasty comfort food to make it better – like the mountains of cheese at Bruff’s Artisan Lunch last week! There’s nothing more soothing than pairing up bread and cheese and local preserves into the best lunch I can make. And all is well in the lunch department, because I’ve been good about remembering to wash my pink shirt or bring a donation so I can get my sugar cookie on Pink Wednesdays! Let’s see if I can keep up my record throughout October. I don’t want to miss a bite! And it’s important that I practice cookiecrunching – but more about that later. Speaking of keeping up records, I discovered at Gourmet Grill that only a double stack of burger patties will fit in my beak. I hope my relatives don’t find out – big mouths are kind of a thing for us pelicans, you know! Keep it quiet, but I’m working on being able to eat four next time. And hey, shoutout to my friends from tailgating on Saturday at the Tulane vs. Connecticut game! I love to have a big, celebratory meal before the Green Wave plays! This week, I’m excited for Bruff’s Kitchen, which will be featuring DeShanda Williams and her catfish-stuffed eggplant! Chef DeShanda is actually focused on nutrition education rather than hands-on cooking – it’s the science-y side of delicious food. She’s made a healthy, grain-packed version of a New Orleans dish with a couscous grain mixture and vitamin-packed crawfish tail meat in a fried eggplant boat.
The crawfish-stuffed eggplant will be on the Bruff menu this Thursday, October 16th, from 11 A.M. to 2 P.M. I can’t wait to see Chef DeShanda’s take on healthy, balanced meals! And it’s so much better because of the crawfish – I love some tasty mudbugs, don’t you? I’d better enjoy my healthy crawfish and eggplant and build up some strength, because on Friday comes the competition I’ve been waiting for all semester, and I have to be a credit to pelicankind. I’ll be making my donation for breast cancer awareness so I can get in on the Eat the Cure cookie-eating contest! Make sure you come by and vote for me in the contest – there are prizes for anyone who guesses the winner as well as for those who eat the most cookies in each round. I don’t mean to brag, but I’m pretty sure I was born for this contest, so show up to support me at FAQ on Friday, October 17th between 4 and 6 P.M. And if you think you can take on a delicious food major at the cookie throwdown, well, you’re on! Come face off with me at the cookie table! Love, Riptide
