[LETTER FROM OUR CEO] Dear Friends, 2012 was another great year for Up with People. We continue to stabilize the company and strengthen our financial position. That is due in great part to the support we receive from all of you. The continuity of the management team also plays a key part in our success, and I feel it is noteworthy to recognize that we have been working together for four years and all continue to have the same “end in mind. We continued to increase enrollment in the spring cast with over 100 students and 22 countries represented, and we once again visited multiple continents where our message of peace and hope is still very well received. We welcomed our first Iraqi student in Cast A 2012, who brought a new outlook to share with our students and a great deal of knowledge about his country and culture. 2012 was also a significant year in that the Up with People program received formal recognition for the unique educational experience we provide when Florida Southern College joined us as our new academic partner. Our first students opted into this study abroad program where the collaboration of traditional academic coursework and experiential and workshop-based education will result in 12 transferable academic credits. Camp Up with People was another resounding success with 12 countries represented in sold-out sessions during the summer. In June, we invited a special cast of over 50 students to attend the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro. The momentum is growing and we are looking forward to another great year with many new programs. Our 50th Anniversary is just around the corner and the enthusiasm is growing. We are hoping to bring this celebration to the world and reach 50 cities around the globe. Together, we will celebrate 50 great years of inspired community service and uplifting music, while building the foundation for the next 50 years.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your continued support and hope to see all of you on the road in the near future. Sincerely,

Alain L. Thiry President & CEO

[OUR PROGRAM COMPONENTS] We travel to where we can make a positive difference in the world. We increase mutual cultural understanding by staying with local host families wherever we travel. Host families generously share their lives and homes, and year after year, this proves to be one of the most impactful components of the Up with People experience. During the 22-week tour, participants travel from city to city discovering what makes each region unique. They gain an understanding of its politics, history, culture, geography and economics. This experiential learning is enhanced by leadership workshops and educational seminars focusing on international topics and cultural exchange. The curriculum includes readings, exercises, simulations, group discussions and team projects.

WORLD TRAVEL

We broaden understanding as a foundation for peace by traveling with other participants from around the world. We value diversity of thought, experience and culture among our participants who come from all regions and countries of the world, to provide a multi-cultural experience for all involved. We nurture and develop global citizenship in all of our participants.

INTERNATIONAL PARTICIPANTS

]

]

Up with People provides young adults an international and intercultural experience that teaches servant leadership and uses the performing arts to deliver messages of hope and goodwill throughout the world.

]

To promote awareness of ways that community members can positively serve their community, we align with local charitable organizations and work alongside them to provide hundreds of hours of service. Our participants learn about the needs of the communities we visit and community members see how together, they can make a positive difference in their own backyard.

[

COMMUNITY PARTNERS

Up with People was founded on the principle of using the universal language of music as a way to inspire, energize, educate and communicate. In each city the cast visits, participants perform in a vibrant and moving musical stage show that brings the community together, celebrates the Up with People mission and integrates the stories of community partners.

[STAND UP NOW] Verse You can see it in her eyes - she holds so much pain But no one says a word, when they laugh and call her names Whatcha gonna do, are you gonna do, Whatcha gonna do, are you gonna do, what’s right You hold the key, you have the opportunity to Chorus (x 2) Stand up now, lift up your voices Stand up now, this is your time Stand up now, we all have choices Rise and fight with kindness Verse He sits all alone, cautious and afraid As they push him to the ground, not a single word is said. Whatcha gonna do, are you gonna do, Whatcha gonna do, are you gonna do, what’s right You can set him free Chorus (x 2) Rap verse Hey yo we gotta stand up... even thru adversity, Cuz troubles always come around trying to ruin you and me We gotta fight back with love as the answer, Gotta push the hate down let ‘em see us stand up, We need to spread the peace and let the hate die, Knowing that... we can achieve something great rise! And stand firm when you’re going thru the struggle, When people trying to break you down remain humble... Know that you’re worth more than they treat you, Try as they can, but don’t let ‘em deceive you, Just stand tall and nothing can reach you, Though some people are cruel don’t let them defeat you... Chorus © Up with People

[

[ 9]

]

JOHANNA POE TTER GERMANY | CAST B 2011

“Up with People gave me the focus to decide to work with children in emerging countries. I’ve learned to become more patient and tolerant of others and to respect different cultures. Encouragement and acceptance are my lyrics for life.”

RIC O TH OMPS ON BAHAMAS | CASTS B 2011 & A 2012

]

“I want to make a difference by being present. Be willing to step forward and do what is necessary to make a positive impact. To continue to share the message of peace and equality not only through empty words, but through actions that back those words up.”

[ [

]

KRISSNA MORENO-PACHECO MEXICO | CAST A 2012

“My education continued on the road, and the world was my classroom. I am very curious about what is happening globally, and I saw many beautiful things in the world. We were able to touch people on our tour and pass on the positive spirit of Up with People. I want to continue that experience in my everyday life.”

EMILIO RODRIGUEZ USA | CASTS B 2011 & A 2012

]

“I can be a change in the world by being the guy who chooses to speak and wants to listen. I can make a difference because I now know that an act of service means more than the task completed; it sets an example to encourage others.”
