PREFACE
The urban design studio is structured as an introduction to urban scale problems and the contextual part of a built form. Urban design deals with the premise of a single building or an area and where its boundaries merge into surrounding built form with different land uses and activities. The studio objective was divided into two parts.
Part I: Areas that have the context of design issues like, pedestrian and traffic movement, mixed activities etc. and have the scope of redevelopment are identified. The premise of the subject is understood through study and representation of key urban elements in cities. Part I, hence, includes a detailed documentation of the area that followed a thorough understanding of the site through primary and secondary sources.
Part II: The second part focusses on intervention within the areas. The study is followed by identification of problems within the area and envisioning its redevelopment. The project required a medium-sized design intervention.
The solution would address issues like demography, market value, land use patterns etc. Eventually, it would be followed by the detailing of the open and built redeveloped areas after studying human and movement patterns.

Udaipur is one of the most popular cities in Rajasthan. It is famous for its lakes and palaces. Also known as ‘Jewel of Mewar’ in 1553 this city was founded by Maharaja Udai Singh, on the banks of Lake Pichola. It is claimed as one of the most romantic cities of the world and mini Venice.
Art
The precinct for the study covers parts of land on both sides of the Pichola lake. The area lies a few kilometers ahead of the Jagdish Temple while the city palace, also in a close proximity, is visible from the various vantage points of the site that face the water edge.
