URBAN ASSISTANT UN-BUSY YOUR LIFE: QUICK GUIDE #3
Is your life a constant battle against the clock? It doesn’t need to be that way - read our Quick Guides to find out how you can un-busy your life.
Five techniques to help you prioritise better By Claire Lane
In the Un-‐busy Your Life program, my clients often say “But I still have so much to do! How do I know where to start?” Here are a few questions I ask to help them re-‐prioritise. If you could only achieve one thing, what would it be? The next time you are faced with conflicting priorities, ask yourself this question. Think about your goals, whether it’s goals for your life, work, business, family or something else. Ask yourself: which task will provide you with the biggest pay-off - whether financially or emotionally. What are you trying to avoid? Often, the best thing you can work on is the one you’re trying to avoid. It’s usually a task that’s been waiting on the ‘to do’ list for a while, getting less attractive by the day; one which requires skills you don’t have or will put you out of your comfort zone. But if you can just get this one task done, it’ll be off that list and off your mind. What’s just never going to get done? Sometimes, it’s just time to acknowledge that a

certain task is never going to get done, and that the world will not implode as a result. So, take your ‘to do’ list and cross off everything that’s never going to get done (if that seems a bit daunting, create a “one day” list). Allowing yourself not to do something can be very liberating - try it today! What’s at the front of your mind? What’s the main thing your mind is occupied with right now? The biggest thing? The one thing that’s driving you crazy. Imagine if you could just get that one thing off your mind. Once you have a clear mind you have the space to think, to be creative and productive. And who knows where that might lead you? What would someone else say? If you’re still not sure what is a priority, ask someone else - a friend or colleague, even a client or supplier. Bouncing ideas off others in your network is very valuable. Want to know more? T: 0439 419 211 E: info@urbanassistant.com.au Read the blog for more tips: www.urbanassistant.posterous.com
