WELCOME TO SOME GREAT NEW TITLES
elcome to the Spring/Summer 2018 catalogue of Urbane Publications. We have an incredibly exciting year of new books for every reader and we hope you’ll enjoy browsing and find an essential new title or two. This catalogue includes new books from January to August 2018 and includes gripping crime fiction, a little romance, a mystery or two, ground-breaking contemporary literary fiction and even a rock biography! Urbane is very proud of the original and distinctive writer voices it publishes and the first half of 2018 is no exception. The year begins with historical mystery and crime with critically acclaimed novelist Clio Gray’s third book in the Scottish Mysteries – Hidden Pasts. This is quickly followed by The Trouble Boys, Irish American author E.R.Fallon’s compelling historical crime novel set amongst the Irish and Cuban gangs of New York in the 40s and 50s. And debut writers are represented as well with Adam Steiner’s darkly satirical novel Politics of the Asylum, as hospital porter Nathan Finewax deals with the everyday challenges and horrors of working in the NHS. Acclaimed writer, musician and academic Thomas Paul Burgess also joins the Urbane ranks with his challenging and topical new novel Through Hollow Lands – this is a novel that will definitely ruffle a few feathers! And we are very, very excited about the debut thriller of Faber Academy graduate Helen Trevorrow – In the Wake is already garnering a huge amount of interest with
its gripping, emotive storyline and strong female characters. And it’s not all about the fiction. In May Urbane will be revealing a brand new business book imprint and has a fantastic lead title to launch the list. She’s Back by Lisa Unwin and Deb Khan is the essential guide to returning to work and offers women (and men!) who have taken a career break all the tips and advice they need to get their ambitions and careers flying again. This is going to be an incredibly popular title. As will These Perfect Days, Charles Rawling-Way’s brilliant rock-ography of chart topping band Del-Amitri. With thousands of fans worldwide, a sold out summer tour and a book that reveals new insights into the band members, the group’s history and every song, this will prove the perfect companion for any music follower. Book 3 in the Gardener and Reilly crime series. “Implant has all the tension and pace to satisfy all crime fiction enthusiasts.” F Booth
B
ramfield, near Leeds, a sleepy little market town nestled on the borders of West and North Yorkshire. Detectives Stewart Gardener and Sean Reilly discover the naked corpse of Alex Wilson, nailed to the wall of a cellar in his uncle’s hardware store. His lips are sewn together and his body bears only one mark, a fresh scar near his abdomen. Within forty-eight hours, their investigation results in dead ends, more victims, no suspects and very little in the way of solid evidence. Gardener and Reilly have a problem and a question on their hands: are the residents of Bramfield prepared for one of history’s most sadistic killers, The Tooth Fairy? Perfect for fans of Peter May, Mark Billingham and Peter James.
The British Fantasy Society published RAY CLARK’s first work in 1995, a 3,000-word essay on fellow writer, Graham Masterton. The eventual book, Manitou Man: The World of Graham Masterton, was nominated for both the World and British Fantasy Awards. In 2009, Ray’s short story, Promises To Keep, made the final shortlist for the best short story award from The Tom Howard Foundation. Ray is based in Goole, and has set his crime series in the nearby West Yorkshire city of Leeds.
