CONTACT INFORMATION
Saint-Gobain SageGlass 2 Sage Way Faribault, MN 55021 USA www.sageglass.com marketing@sageglass.com 507-331-4848
Our Offering: Electrochromic glass is a type of dynamic glazing that changes tint automatically in response to the sun. It does this through an integrated system of glazing, sensors and intelligent controls that detect light levels, heat and sun angle to dictate tinting of the glass. This automated tinting is supplemented by manual approaches including wall switches, a mobile app and BMS control. The intelligent tinting allows the product to range from 60% Visible Light Transmittance (VLT), comparable to standard low-e glazing, all the way down to 1% VLT, capable of controlling all but the most extreme glare conditions. In so doing, it also modulates the solar heat admitted into the building, which can dramatically offset cooling loads in the summer and reduce heating loads in the winter. Our Value: Traditional glazing is a static product, incapable of responding to the climate or building occupants. Electrochromic glazing represents nothing less than a paradigm shift in the building industry, transforming glazing from a passive to an active part of the built environment. In so doing, it automatically manages daylight, heat and glare to optimize occupant comfort and energy performance. It is also an IoT solution that supports smart building design by turning the glazing into a connected system, controllable by both facility management and occupants alike. Our company: Started in 1989 in Valley Cottage, N.Y., with a singular and ambitious mission: to completely reinvent what glass means for buildings. We soon became the first to develop electrochromic technology and spent the years that followed innovating and building upon our revolutionary product. In 2010, we announced our triple-pane glazing product, the world’s most energy-efficient window glass, and this led us to an important partnership. Saint-Gobain, the Paris-based world leader in building materials for 350 years, invested $80 million in our company. By 2012 Saint-Gobain had acquired 100% of SageGlass, making it a wholly owned subsidiary and a key part of its innovation strategy.
MANAGEMENT/LEADERSHIP
Alan McLenaghan, CEO of SageGlass, is a 20-year veteran of the SaintGobain group, the parent company of SageGlass. Prior to becoming CEO, Alan served as SVP of technology at Saint-Gobain’s Containers Division (glass bottles), global VP of manufacturing at Saint-Gobain Glass (flat glass) and managing director of Saint-Gobain Glass UK Ltd. He considers it the ultimate honor to have been asked by Saint-Gobain’s executive leadership to bring dynamic SageGlass to the global market. Electronically tintable SageGlass is the most innovative product and technology to emerge in the glass and glazing industry since the advent of flat glass produced by the float process.
Alan started his career in the late 1980s with the chemical companies ICI and DuPont, working in several European countries, North America and China. He holds a B.S. in applied chemistry and a Ph.D. in polymer physics from universities in his native Scotland. Despite the executive titles, Alan considers himself a practical, straightforward Scot and was recently described by a well-known industry blogger as looking and sounding like a Scottish football (soccer) player.
