Lancel was founding in 1876, it is very known for its creative designs like the umbrella bag of the 1920`s, the Charleston bag created in 1960`s and its Brigitte Bardot Collection in 2010, as you can read every collection have is uniqueness and the key factor of this originality is the alliance between functionality and iconic style. Salvador Domènec Felip Jacint Dali I Domènech, Marquis de Pùbol, commonly known as Salvador Dali was a surrealist painter, a man that painted bizarre images in a surrealist world, images that passed to the history not only for the techniques but also for its beauty and Gala Dali, usually know as Gala, the wife and the inspiration of the iconic artist, very adored by many of Paris Avant Garden artist of the time, both are the inspiration behind the new collection of Lancel, properly call Daligramme. It’s not easy design something based in the works of others artist, especially when we admired to the iconic artist, but it seems that this wasn’t a problem, starting from the drawings made by Salvador Dali in the 1970’s to create a Daligramme bag, Leonello Borghi explored the influences in Dali’s world, his Renaissance rigor and his surrealist side, all the necessary to create a collection that evoke the Dali’s style.
After that the materials and the design played its part, Spanish leather was the perfect choice, -which is commonly known as one of the best leathers-, the leather has been vegetable tanned using an age-old tradition process that preserves and beautifies the leather. Then the jacquard fabric with the special elements, the Dali’s symbols which have a textured aspect as if they were actual three- dimensional objects.
Definitely the principal attraction of the collection is the use of the symbols, for example the S of Salvador, G of Gala la muse, the crown which means Le pouvoir du souverain or the power of the sovereign, we can forget the bicycle chain used to accessorize each model, an accessory that symbolize the romantic union between Dali and Gala, which significance is “two linked being going in the same direction”. The models to re-create the art make reference to Lancel’s vintage bags from the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s. All a waste of glamour, art, beauty, style, etc, very indescribable, like art, because at the end of the day the fashion is also art and each person got its perspective, which is your perspective with this collection?
