Suggested Skill Building Activities Black Man’s Think Tank Conference April 9­10, 2010 The Black Man’s Think Tank (BMTT) Planning Committee anticipates many adolescent and young adult males participating in BMTT Conference. For secondary and post secondary educators, the following activities are suggested to assist your students in their development of critical thinking and communication skills: 1. Conducting interviews of presenters and attendees. Allows your students to hone communication skills. 2. Presenting workshops focused on the conference theme. Allows your students to apply what’s been learned in your classroom to real­world applications. 3. Conducting assessments and/or evaluations of particular workshops or the conference as a whole. Allows your students to develop survey, observational, and critical thinking skills as well as communication skills. 4. Teams of students may also develop a synthesis of particular aspects of the conference or the conference as a whole. Allows your students to practice team work while developing communication and critical thinking skills. 5. Working a vendor table that offers services, products, screenings, or information of some sort. Allows your students to develop social skills within the context of what’s been learned in your classroom. Also, develops promotional skills.
