New Residents
This time of year is always busy in Pathology Education. Across our programs, we say farewell to those graduating, while preparing ourselves to welcome a new batch of students to a number of programs including our Ph.D. and medical laboratory technologist (CMT) programs, residency, and fellowships. While saying goodbye to many of our graduates can seem sad at times, the end of the academic year gives us a chance to also say thank you and celebrate great achievements.
Throughout this newsletter and other departmental communications, you will notice some of the accolades and awards of the past few months. While there are far too many to note here, consider this a snapshot of all of the great work happening in the department:
The CMT program graduated 13 students, including 11 that are staying on to join our staff – welcome to the team! Nichole Mulyca was awarded the Dr. Tai Kwong Excellence in Teaching Award for her outstanding efforts in educating and mentoring future medical technologists. Shaelyn Earley
was awarded the Judy Miller Aspiring Leader Award. And Ha Phan was awarded the Dr. Tai Kwong Academic Excellence Award. The residency, fellowship, and graduate programs also had successful graduations this spring. Within the Ph.D. program, Trae Carroll received the award for Academic Excellence. Andrea Amitrano received the award for Outstanding Scientific Contribution and Dr. Katherine Best received the Robert Mooney Award for Outstanding Thesis. There were many awards provided by the Jennifer Findeis-Hosey, M.D. residents during their annual celebration. It was wonderful to see so many of our faculty and staff being recognized, including Dr. Bruce Smoller who received the Eric A. Schenk Award for Excellence in Teaching. I would like to thank all of you for your contributions to our educational programs. As an academic medical institution, we have a wonderful opportunity to blend together the areas of ‘education,’ ‘clinical,’ and ‘research.’ This could not be done without you. Thank you!
