Two-year J.D.
Richmond Law’s LL.M. is a one-year, full-time, master’s level program for lawyers whose first degree in law is from outside the United States. Our program offers lawyers an opportunity to gain a firm grounding in the U.S. legal and Common Law system, while polishing their communication and legal English skills. With an outstanding faculty, personalized attention, and the opportunity to take classes with J.D.s, LL.M. students are fully integrated into the Law School. In addition to a generalized LL.M. degree, LL.M. students also have the opportunity to pursue specialized concentrations in International Business Law and Intellectual Property Law.
LLM/MBA candidates enjoy the best of both worlds: access to an advanced legal degree combined with a top-notch business education. One of only a few programs of its kind, the two year LLM/MBA dual degree prepares students to deal effectively with global business and legal transactions – a combination that provides our graduates with a distinct advantage in a world where law and business are increasingly interdependent and globally focused. Joint degree students take classes full-time at the Law School and at the Robins School of Business, just steps apart on Richmond’s beautiful campus.
Designed for international lawyers who plan to sit for the bar exam in the U.S., the international twoyear J.D. program allows students to graduate in two years with the same J.D. degree that our three-year students receive. Students with a qualifying law degree from outside the U.S. are awarded one year’s advance standing, allowing them to complete their degree requirements more quickly. Students in the program are required to take firstyear doctrinal classes and may then choose from an extensive selection of upper-level courses and clinics in their second year to complete all degree requirements.

Need-to-know information • LL.M. students are fully integrated with their J.D. colleagues throughout the curriculum, providing international students the opportunity for daily interaction and participation in law school activities • Intentionally small, our LL.M. cohort with a cap of just 20 students, allows for plenty of one-on-one attention • A student-faculty ratio of 5:1 provides opportunities for meaningful interactions with professors • Individual faculty and student mentorship to assist in course selection to enable you to meet your career goals & interests • Certifications available in both International Business Law and Intellectual Property Law • All international students have access to specialized resources which include services of an English Language Specialist
