As we walk through life, each fleeting moment holds beauty beyond what the eye can see. There are thoughts, sounds, smells, sensations ‌ and so much more. Through my photography, I strive to suspend time and capture the fullness of the moment. My photography style, photo-impressionism, allows me to take the concrete world and transform it into an abstract, almost projective, image where I can express my thoughts and dreams and share them with you.

Cold Night
I live surrounded by trees ‌ surrounded by their beauty, fragrance, fragility, movement, and life. It seemed natural that my first book would feature these magical neighbours. Throughout this book, you will see images of trees and moments in time. Those moments captivated me. I invite you to walk through these images and share my captivation.

A Walk in the Woods
I have an affinity for trees, and I am drawn to capture the moment when I am in their company. Whether they stand alone or huddle together in a group, they seem content to pose for my art. At times, they ask to be shot sharp and clear, standing out against rocks or hillsides or the sky. At times, they are not done justice until I experiment in post-processing by combining different shots of the same subject/scene, or different shots altogether. I use motion blur, zooming, multiple exposures, selective focus, and focus-through, whatever works for the situation. My work is not done until the photograph captures and communicates the moment.

I love going back to the same trees, over and over, at various times of day and in various seasons, getting to know that particular place intimately. Through this process of knowing, I am able to infuse my photographs with the trees’ characters and moods. Trees have so many different personalities and faces: gentle, dramatic, eerie, stark, powerful, delicate, peaceful ... I often go out with a specific idea in mind, or a subject I want to capture, but then I find that the moment has taken me in an altogether different direction, and I follow the new idea.

I view my photographs as a way to capture and share the moments of my life. Some of my most profound moments take place when I walk amongst the trees. I hope you have shared those moments as you walked through this book of trees. Most importantly, I hope the photographs inspire you to fully experience the trees around you.
