BASIC INFORMATION BEFORE STARTING YOUR REMODELING PROJECT
The Basic Elements & Design Styles of cabinet construction generally have 3 basic designs: (i) Framed; (ii) Frameless; and (iii) Inset. Framed Cabinets are cabinets with a hardwood frame on the face of the cabinet that masks the raw edges of the sides, adds rigidity to the cabinet and provides a strong base for attaching hinges.
Frameless Cabinets are simply the wood box, without the wood frame and offer more accessibility and storage space. Inset Cabinets refers to the type of door that is completely flush with the cabinet’s face frame when it is closed and prevents unsightly gaps between the door and the cabinet’s frame.
Drawers are generally a wood face of your chosen wood species your style & color, attached to a separate drawer box. We recommend cabinet lines that make their boxes of solid wood sides, front, & back assembled using dovetail joints.
Doors are made of your chosen wood species, style & color attached and can be set on the cabinet box in 1 of 3 styles, mentioned above. Stains, Paints & Finishes should be chosen carefully, as this part of the process can vary greatly from one cabinet maker to another. Hardware is an essential part of your new cabinets and should come equipped with high quality drawer glides, hinges and soft-close mechanisms. Basic Construction the box for most cabinets is may be made from either: Plywood – thin layers of real wood, glued in cross-grained layers for rigidity; Particle board – course ground wood particles mixed with adhesives; or MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) fine textured wood particles and adhesives. USA Cabinet Store staff is highly trained, professional and knowledgeable about the latest information cabinet styles and trends.
