ABOUT ME: A highly motivated 2nd-year UPAD student in GUTECH with a great eagerness to constantly develop and learn new things and skills. I have developed and sharpened my skills in the 2 years of my bachelor’s degree studies, and have been a part of a multiple of activities that have been of great significance towards building up my character.

Usama Al Maskari

I have had great experiences in traveling to multiple countries like Germany, Singapore, UAE, Tanzania. And that has inspired me to design and create sustainable and eco-friendly architecture that will be of great economical and social value to the county. I believe that its a crucial time to start and head with architecture and urban design in that direction.

The Where Oman Walks Project was aimed towards planning and finding solutions for Omani neighborhoods to encourage walkability and to reduce the usage of cars as a means of transport in the neighborhood. The survey we took out to the community contained strategical question that aimed to give us answers for our analysis of the area. They include questions that touch upon various aspects in the neighborhood such a land use, density, safety, street connectivity, pedestrian, infrastructure, ae thetics. The responses from the survey varied a lot, but all in all everyon agreed that the area needs shading, sidewalks and crosswalks. Which a the main elements that encourages and makes walking easy. Adding that, when it comes to the aesthetics of the area, we found out that a l of the members of the community don’t walk around the area becaus there aren’t enough trees or shading in the area. When it comes to th pedestrian infrastructure, we found that the walk-ability is extremely lo due to the lack of shading and proper laid sidewalks in the neighborhoo Moreover, we found that one of the reasons why the walk-ability is low Al Ansab Heights Mosque that there weren’t many facilities and functions available to the reach Opinions the community close by which means that they use cars to go elsewhe Heights. After the thorough analysis, we then moved for that.

Our project was held in Al Ansab to the second stage where we met up with the people from the community and discussed plans and wishes from the residents of the community. We then later, proposed solutions based on the past discussion and following survey results that were a factor in the development of our plans. Overall, the project was a success and our project was picked to be showcased at Bait Al Baranda Museum.

Ibra is one of the most architectural historic rich cities in Oman. Al Qanater, specifically, has been one of the most important cities in the country and the middle east region as it held a lot of history and power from ancient times. This mud house is about 300 years old. It is made of stones, wood, and mud. It has an area of about 521.2 m2, and it consists of 2 floors. This plan shows a typical Omani family mud house. It’s directly derived from the research conducted on the site. The ground floor consists of a store, 2 halls, a men’s Majlis, a women’s Majlis, a storage room and a kitchen adjacent to it.

We were inspired by the FOS logo, and we wanted to design something thats fun and dynamic at the same time. The idea was to make the structure of the building functional and convertible, so that the classrooms could serve as many functions as possible. The aim to stray away from the traditional structure of a school and to design a fun and bright enviroment for the children of the FOS to learn and grow.

The extention is made up of 6 floors. The ground floor features the public functions like the Cantine, Prayer rooms, and a library. The upper 5 floors consist of class rooms, art rooms, computer labs, student reading and relaxing areas and 3 balconys. The design was picked as one of the best designs in the contest and was awarded by the GUTECH recotorates and FOS staff members.

It also features a double-height ceiling dining room with two areas looking downwards. Adding to that it has a private courtyard situated in the middle of the house for maximum natural lighting. The villa also features a large swimming pool that can be accessed from the ground floor and can be seen from both the ground floor and the first floor on the east side of the villa. The windows on the east facade look onto the large swimming pool and it ties in the indoor with the outdoor very well.
