Deep To seek depth is to seek clarity, the pursuit of which is filled with trials and hardships. Constructed as a quest, this journey is not meant to be easy, it is meant to be worth it.

The accounts of these journeys have created legends and myths, inspiring along the way, a multitude of artistic offshoots including stories, dances, poetries and music. Indicating that although a journey is undertaken alone, it is felt and appreciated by the wider community.

‘Deep’ carries through with this legacy by looking at the journey of a pearl diver. It uncovers an immediate, mutual past that is shared by the different featured artists. With the use of different mediums, this contemporary exploration, by 13 GCC artists takes into account the journey of the diver, physically and metaphorically.

“Deep” is an exhibition featuring the works of thirteen GCC artists exploring physically and metaphorically the region’s iconic pearl divers’ journey.

Curated by Mrs. Lulwah Al Homoud, this exhibition is created to take the viewer on a journey, which is filled with challenges and rewards, loss and conquest. By taking its viewers deep into the souls and minds of the pearl divers, “Deep” will draw the art community into a world filled with legends and myths, spiring along the way, a multitude of artistic offshoots including stories, dances, poetries and music. Through an emotional journey the viewer will leave having experienced a sense of clarity never felt before. The exhibit includes a diversity of mediums from photography, video art and sculpture of renowned artists like Ali Hassan from Qatar who won many awards, Matar Bin Lahej a Dubai born artist who has exhibited both locally and internationally, Mohamed Al Astad who will be showing one of his “art graves beaches” made of iron rust on canvas, Mohammed Haider who will present abstract pieces about the Gulf’s impact on society. The exhibition will also feature emerging talent Fahad Al-Gethami currently working in Saudi Arabia, Sara Al Sanosi a young Saudi self-taught artist, and Bader Al Mansour a Kuwaiti artist who creates art from scraps. Furthering the exhibition’s focus in inner contemplation is Nassir Al-Turki from Saudi Arabia, and Hala Al Khalifah from Bahrain whose works serve as a metaphor for entrapment. Noura Bouzo paintings allow the viewer to dive deep into the cultural meaning we have lost, while Ahlam Shalabi celebrates beauty in nature, women, colors and fabric. At last Al Mutasim Al Maskery’s own journey with pearl diving ties masterfully “Deep” together when Aziz El-Mutwalli carries on his timeless quest for Deep.

Cube Arts Gallery began in London in 2010 through the joint efforts of two Saudi Arabian artists, Mrs. Lulwah Al Homoud and HH Princess Reem Al Faisal. Through joining with Mrs. Safa Al Hamed Cube Arts was brought to Dubai, with a sole dedication to GCC artists in the area. By mixing different media and artworks from around the globe Cube Arts strive to open eyes and mind to art and culture.
