Why Lifeguarding Job Is Considered Important? Drowning is one of the leading causes of unintentional death in the world. As per report, inability to swim, lack of barriers and inadequate supervision are the prominent causes of drowning. That’s why, pool lifeguard jobs have gained so importance. Lifeguards enforce safety rules and monitor the activities of swimmers. Hence, it is vital to hire lifeguards in and around pools, beaches and water parks. The main job of lifeguards is to spot threats and respond emergencies quickly which ultimately help pool owners to improve security and prevent accidents.


If you want to become a lifeguard, you should know advanced swimming skills and successfully completed Red Cross training or other lifeguard certifications. What is the role of lifeguard? Drowning claims thousands of lives every year. According to the report, approximately 70 percent of drowning victims are kids. Not only non-swimmers, the strongest swimmers could be swept out by a RIP current. Hence, lifeguards are supposed to monitor carefully to ensure the safety of swimmers. Drowning can happen silently at any time. Lifeguards need to be alert on the field. They usually sit on tall chairs in order to see more far. It helps them to recognize the threat. When they find that someone is engaged in dangerous activities, they use whistle to make an alert. Moreover, if someone goes down under water or get injured, they conduct rescue operation to save swimmer. In training, lifeguards learn to perform emergency rescue procedures. As per need, they have to perform CPR. Hence, they should know how to do CPR. If a swimmer feels fatigued or at risk for other reasons, a lifeguard dives into the water and helps return the swimmer to safety. It is expected from them to provide on-site emergency response in spite of waiting for paramedics to arrive. Lifeguards should educate people about water safety rules. They should teach swimming lessons in a natural instructional way. Especially, lifeguard should explain the rules to children and helps them understand the reasoning behind safety measures.


Lifeguards are supposed to perform the following duties.  They act as representatives of pool management and lifeguard service companies. Hence, they are expected to maintain a professional attitude  Conduct staff meetings as per needs.  Attend all scheduled staff meetings  Communicate and enforce all UREC regulations and pool rules  Take actively part in staff training  Offer help in facilitating such activity  Performing patron surveillance with a rescue tube  Use all senses to remain alert while guarding  Provide support to team during special events  Set up the pool for various activities such as laps, classes, etc.  Maintain a record of visitors and create daily activity reports  Check the chemical level in water and record results.
