Today we talk about two of our specialist treatment options, spinal fracture surgery and fallopian tube catheterization (also known as recanalization). Spinal Fracture Surgery Procedure

Spinal fractures, also known as vertebral compression fractures (VCF), are often caused by many different factors. Debilitating conditions such as osteoporosis or spine cancer cause the bones to weaken, which can lead to fractures and additional problems. Similarly, traumatic injuries, from sports, car accidents, and so on, are also common causes of spinal fractures. Our specialist vascular surgeons are trained to perform spinal fracture surgery. They know what they’re doing, and all you have to do is relax and let them do their jobs. There are several surgical procedures used in spinal fracture surgery, all of which depend on the severity of your condition. General treatment options include kyphoplasty, a type of vertebral augmentation, and minimally invasive vertebroplasty. Kyphoplasty aims to put a stop to pain by stabilizing the affected bones. Usually conducted for compression fractures, kyphoplasty can restore some if not all of your lost vertebral body height. Your doctor will make a small incision in your back and insert a balloon through a specialized tube. The balloon inflates and elevates the fracture, returning the pieces to their normal positions. Vertebroplasty works in a similar way to stop pain by stabilizing your spinal fracture. However, it involves a small puncture being made in your skin so a biopsy needle can inject acrylic bone cement to fill the space between the bones. This will create an internal cast within the vertebra to stabilize the bone. Fallopian Tube Catheterization Procedure Our vascular specialists can also treat blocked fallopian tubes using catheterization. Using our specialized fallopian tube catheterization procedure, our surgeons can improve your chances of pregnancy. The procedure will be carried out under local anesthesia to prevent any pain. Your doctor then feeds a flexible catheter into your uterus and injects a dye that will flow into your fallopian tubes. This helps the tubes to show up on the xray. Once the doctor identifies the blockage, they will inject a special fluid into your tubes to clear them of the blockage. Similarly, much like kyphoplasty, the doctor may insert a balloon to inflate and clear the blockage.
