Dog Training

Our course has been designed to help you through the puppy and adult stages of your dog’s life. Obedience training, basic care, and housebreaking techniques will be covered, as well as any other issues that owners are encountering. This course is taught by Storm Foreman, who has been with the Recreation Dog Obedience Program for over 20 years. She has owned numerous German Shepherd Dogs (GSDs) and titled three of them in the AKC Obedience ring. She currently has her 6th GSD and has gone through all the ups and downs of puppy training with him, so she can relate to the participants’ problems and challenges of having a new dog! Whether you have a new puppy or are giving a rescue dog a new lease on life, this course is an excellent starting point for you to train your dog—whether as a mannerly house pet or a competition/performance dog. You and your dog will receive one-on-one help from Storm, as well as guidance over the phone, if needed. 4 Any questions concerning the dog’s temperament and ability to be in a class situation should be directed to Storm before registering: 412. 221-1099, extension 622.

Water Safety Tips for Parents of Young Children • Keep your baby in your arms at all times. • Dress her in a swim diaper that prevents fecal matter from leaking into the pool -- a major health risk for other swimmers. • An infant can drown in as little as an inch of water in less than 30 seconds, so beware of all water hazards, including inflatable baby pools, buckets, toilets, and tubs. • Your toddler may now feel so comfortable in the water that he thinks he can swim by himself. Don't leave him alone, even for a minute. He needs constant adult supervision around water.

• Stress basic pool safety, like not running near the pool and only going into the water with Mommy or Daddy. • Avoid water wings, air-filled swimsuits, and inflatable flotation toys. He will sink if they deflate, and they may give him -- and you -- a false sense of security. Use a flotation device that is a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket. • Don't leave toys in the pool after he gets out. He may be tempted to reach for them. These tips and additional safety recommendations can be found at www.parents.com Teach Your Child to Swim
