Sessions open to all SOLES students & faculty and offered in conjunction with Research Methods course being team-taught by Professors Nori Inoue and Lonnie Rowell (EDUC 500 & COUN 508)
fall 2009 session dates & times: September 28th 4:00-5:00pm - On the Nature of Action Research This Lab session will explore the variety of contexts in which action research takes place and will provide experiences in question generation and the use of the reflective interview to gain clarity in selecting action research projects
October 26th 5:30-6:45pm - Assessing Needs and Planning for Action Session will examine the links between needs assessment and planning for action in action research. Activities will focus on overcoming ‘motion sickness’ in the back-and-forth movement between research-action and action-research.
November 9th 4:00-5:00pm - Reflective Practice and Recursive Designs in Action Research To make a real impact on education and community life, action research needs to be a part of the “teaching stance” of teachers, the “counseling stance” of counselors, and the “leadership stance” of leaders. This lab session will examine the how of these stances.
November 16th 5:30-6:45pm - Reporting on Action Research: Models for Papers and Presentations To contribute new knowledge to a field of professional study or to a community of practice, researchers working within any research paradigm must share their work and seek critical feedback. The final lab session will explore various forms that such presentations can take, including scholarly forms, activist forms, and artistic forms.
