November 20, 2008: Redefining the Norm Anthony Muhammad, Founder of New Frontier 21
Dr. Muhammad’s presentation addresses the norms and values of traditional schools that thrive on a normally distributed system of learning which are diametrically opposed to the ideal of “learning for all.” The push for universal achievement has caused a philosophical conflict that has caused a stalemate in many schools. He will present solid, research-based techniques to break this stalemate and get all of the stakeholders on the same page for the benefit of children.
January 15, 2009: It’s Being Done: Academic Success in Unexpected Schools Karin Chenoweth, Author of “It’s Being Done”
Karin Chenoweth will identify some of the key characteristics of high performing and rapidly improving schools where most of the students are children of color or children of poverty or both. Her book, “It’s Being Done: Academic Success in Unexpected Schools” provides you with a deeper understanding of the schools she profiled.
February 18, 2009: The Nation’s Most Successful Schools - Lessons Learned Willard Daggett, President of the International Center for Leadership in Education Dr. Willard R. Daggett is president of the International Center for Leadership in Education. The Center studies both the nation’s most successful schools and the most rapidly improving schools. The International Center has identified eight Components of School Excellence that schools typically address to achieve rigor, relevance and relationships for all students. Dr. Daggett will provide an overview of these components and explain how other schools can make substantial improvement by addressing the components.
March 26, 2009: Failure is not an Option Alan Blankstein, Founder and President of the HOPE Foundation
Alan Blankstein leads this interactive session by illustrating six principles essential for creating and sustaining learning communities where all student succeed. He will provide specific strategies and processes drawn from fifteen years of research on how high performing learning communities sustain success. Blankstein will address learning how to build courageous leadership capacity at all levels.
