Elizabeth Baker Woods Scholarship Program for Graduate Students in Learning and Teaching Scholarship Program The University of San Diego, through the School of Leadership and Education Sciences, is continuing its scholarship program for graduate students in the Department of Learning and Teaching who wish to pursue a teaching career. This scholarship program is designed to recognize and assist qualified students who wish to pursue a career in teaching. Qualified students are those who are working toward receiving their teaching credential. The University has named this financial award the Elizabeth Baker Woods Scholarship Program.

Elizabeth Baker Woods This scholarship award is in memory of Elizabeth Baker Woods who, before her marriage, taught grades one through eight in a one-room schoolhouse in North Dakota before and during World War I. It is in her honor that the University of San Diego names this scholarship program that will provide financial assistance to qualified students who share a similar love and commitment to the teaching profession. The scholarship is granted annually by her daughter who is among the faculty in the School of Leadership and Education Sciences at the University of San Diego.

Elizabeth Baker Woods Scholarship Program The University will award scholarships annually to incoming and continuing students. The amount of the scholarship is variable up to $3000, depending on the financial need of the recipient and availability of funding. Baker Woods Scholarship awards may also be combined with other forms of University and outside financial aid for students with demonstrated need. Preference will be given to re-entry students with dependents. Applicants must have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher, or a graduate GPA of 3.0 or higher for 24 or more units completed, each from an accredited institution.

Application Procedures 1. Complete the scholarship application form. 2. Submit the required one-page essay. 3. Submit a letter from a professor recommending him/her for the award. This letter should address the applicant’s financial need and academic performance and should be attached to the application package. All scholarship application materials must be submitted with the application and are due by the application deadline.
