School of Leadership and Education Sciences' Graduate Student Association 2008-2009 Supplemental Grant Guidelines The Graduate Student Association (GSA) for the School of Leadership and Education Sciences (SOLES) offers actively enrolled students the opportunity to apply for grants to off set the cost of extended professional development opportunities in a student’s area of study.
The SOLES GSA Supplemental Grant Applications for Fall 2008 and Spring 2009 should be submitted no later than the following DEADLINE DATES: • •
Fall Deadline: Wednesday, November 26, 2008 for events which take place between July 1, 2008 through January 23, 2009. Spring Deadline: Friday, April 24, 2009 for events which take place between January 24, 2009 through June 30, 2009.
Students are eligible to apply for up to $200 per semester based on receipts submitted. Applications will be reviewed and decided upon by the SOLES GSA Budget Committee immediately following the deadline for each semester. Funding is limited, and grants are awarded based on number of requests, current SOLES GSA budget and criteria set by the GSA. The following are additional guidelines and criteria for the SOLES GSA Supplemental Grants: • •

Must be a School of Leadership and Education Sciences student in good academic standing Acceptable professional development activities: conference, workshop, seminars, speaker events; priority will be given to applicants who are NOT attending as part of a class requirement Acceptable reimbursable expenses related to professional development activities include registration fees, travel or lodging Priority will be given to students closer to the completion of their program of study Priority will be given to full-time students Priority will be given to applicants who will be speaking or presenting at the professional development event Priority will be given to students who have not received a prior grant, although repeat requests are allowed

Location of conference If applicant is actively involved in the School of Leadership and Education Sciences (i.e., University or school committee members, research assistants, volunteers, etc.)
All applicants must comply with the Expense Reimbursement Procedures found at: www.sandiego.edu/administration/financeadmin/procurement/accounts_policies.php in order to guarantee payment of funds. Original receipts for the costs/expenses incurred for the event must be submitted within three weeks of the date of their award notification, and receipts must be in the grant recipient’s name. Receipts may be submitted via fax or mail to the SOLES Assistant Dean, Linda Dews at (619) 260-7585 or 5998 Alcala Park, San Diego, CA 92110, and will be forwarded to the GSA Financial Director.
