Announcements: Petition to Graduate in August 2009 – Due 12/12

The last day to petition for August 2009 graduation is Friday, December 12, 2008. For paperwork and instructions, please visit http://www.sandiego.edu/GraduateRecords/pdf/Petition2Graduate.pdf. Fill out the form to the best of your ability and submit it with your unofficial transcript, which you can get by visiting the One Stop Office on campus, and a copy of your academic record from the Degree Audit Reporting System online. Be sure to sign the form at the bottom and take it to the Graduate Records Office.

Dissertations and Theses – Due 12/12 Ph.D. and Ed.D. students planning Fall 2008 or Intersession 2009 graduation must turn in all fees, forms, and completed dissertation to the Graduate Records Office by Friday, December 12, 2008. Masters students planning Fall 2008 graduation must turn in two bound copies of their master's thesis to the Graduate Records Office by Friday December 12, 2008 as well.

Academic Calendar - Important Dates to Note:

December 19, 2008: Final exams end January 5, 2008: Intersession courses begin January 16, 2008: Final Registration & fee payment deadline for Spring semester, without penalty January 19, 2008: No classes – Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday January 23, 2008: Intersession courses end January 26, 2008: Spring semester begins

This Week's Events: SOLES Annual Holiday Party – Harbor Cruise Saturday, December 6, 2008 Boat begins boarding at 6:00PM Looking forward to seeing you there -- a great night on the harbor to celebrate the holidays & end of semester! Get your boogie on with the DJ, or relax, mingle, and enjoy the view. Appetizers, a glass of champagne, and two free drink coupons


are provided. The boat departs at 7PM, returning to the dock at 9. Still not enough? Enjoy yourself on board until 10. Tickets for this event are sold out.

"Lessons and Carols" Christmas Concert Friday, December 5, 2008 @ 8:00PM Sunday, December 7, 2008 @ 2:00PM Founders Chapel

Dr. Bob (bass) and Ginger (soprano) Infantino invite all SOLES graduate students and their families and friends to the annual Christmas time performance of the USD Community Concert Choir. This 60 voice choir of students and community members, and a full 20 piece orchestra, will perform "Lessons and Carols" in Founders Chapel. The choir features the well-known USD Choral Scholars, and the program will include readings from scriptures followed by sung responses from the choir and audience. Cox Cable plans to tape the Sunday performance to show on its Christmas schedule. Admission is FREE to all.

Alternative Gift Fair Tuesday, December 9, 2008 11:00AM – 2:00PM University Center The annual USD "Alternative Gift Fair" showcases products from around the world. All items offered for sale were either made by persons in developing nations or by participants in San Diego nonprofit organizations. All proceeds return to the individuals who made items or to the nonprofit programs. This event provides a learning opportunity for all members of the USD community, plus a chance to purchase unique, meaningful gifts. For more information, call 619-260-4798.

10th Annual Forum: "100 Years of Guidance and Counseling" Friday, December 12, 2008 7:30AM – 4:30PM Mother Rosalie Hill Hall This event is hosted by the Center for Student Support Systems (CS3).

Career Services Drop-In Advising Thursday Afternoons – a weekly event 4:00PM – 5:00PM MRHH 122B, next to Bert's Linda Scales, Director of Career Services is available every Thursday to discuss your career questions, review your resume, provide interviewing tips, assist in job searches, and more. Available on a first-come, first serve basis. If dropin hours do not fit your schedule, please call Career Services at 619-260-4654 to arrange a meeting time.

International Student Organization Coffee Hour Thursday afternoons – a weekly event 12:15PM – 2:30PM University Center, Room 129

Grab a cup of coffee and join the International Student Organization in the United Front Multicultural Center (UC 129) for great discussions and relaxation.

Graduate Women's Discussion Group Monday's Lunch Hour – a weekly event 12:30PM University Center, Room 116 (Women's Center) The experiences and needs of graduate women are significantly different than those of undergraduates. Come connect with other graduate women for an informal brown bag lunch discussion, focused on the personal, social, and academic needs of graduate women. The purpose of the group is to create a support network in which you can share your own stories and listen to those of other graduate women at USD. Discussion topics are generated by group members.
